Holy !@#$, Disney buys Marvel Comics???

I don't think this is so bad. Now that Disney is involved Marvel will have a major media partner with which to create more consistent animation and films, like DC does with Warner Bros. Heck, let's not forget that Disney were the ones behind "Gargoyles".

Plus superior marketing and network operations since it's operating with Disney. All in all, I'd say this would work out.

Quesada, for whatever else he is, knows what he's talking about far more than any of the fanboy "reliable sources" posting in a panic this morning.

All of this intellectual property already belongs to huge corporations more concerned with their financials than with "creative integrity." One fish has swallowed another; big deal.

Personally, I expect things to be business as usual at Marvel and that we won't really notice anything different--well, at least until Goofy becomes the new Punisher, anyway...

Why..! I oughta to whack you, my friend!

Does this mean that Steve Jobs is now a controlling owner of Marvel like he is of Disney, Pixar, and Apple Computers?

The Reagan-era Republicans have spent the past three decades systematically dismantling all the rational economic safeguards and restraints that were instituted after the Great Depression, essentially reverting the American economy to a 1920s level of maturity. That's why the economy collapsed last year, falling victim to the exact same behavior that led to the Great Depression.

Christopher stick to what you know, which is writing fiction. There have been some 11-13 recessions SINCE the Great Depression. Sadly a recession is a cyclical element in our capitalistic climate, they can't be avoided and severity can't be predicted. Its not something that can be pinned one political party or administration(although that happens) you biased partisan.

Back to Disney buying Marvel now kids.
Sorry, but Chris is 100% correct.

There's no way any deal won't pass antitrust muster anymore. The SEC is primarily stocked full of people who don't believe in regulating anything.
Last I checked the SEC wasn't Republican or Democrat.
He is trying to blame one group of people and that is wrong.
Whether it passes anti-trust isn't an 'R' or 'D' issue.

Marvel was nearly destroyed by outside owners milking it in the 80s. I find it hard to believe that Disney would be worse than that, and I suspect they may well have a positive impact on the company.

Yup! Hubby and I bought a few shares when it came out, just to have, you know? Went from $20/share to $60/share in a very short time, a couple of weeks or months, I think--fast enough that the broker called and asked us about it.

Then Perelman wanted a tax break and intentionally bankrupted it to get that break. I do believe that's illegal (shareholders' rights against a major shareholder)--but, naturally, no one cared.

Well hell. The Wolverine and Scrooge McDuck crossover can only be weeks away.

Shaka, when the walls fell!

AFAIK Warner Brothers pretty much lets the DC universe operate on its own and I imagine Disney will do the same thing. Marvel sales are up very high so I can't imagine they'll tinker with the comic books.

Also it means the end of comics as we know them.
GOOD. I don't think it will happen, but anything that make people realize that there is more to comics than capes & spandex is good in my book.

Meh, outside of the superhero comics of Marvel and Dc, most indie comics are nothing more than a collection of badly written, badly drawn stuff that focuses on sex, uber violence or a plot point the creators think is "high art" or some other pretentious wording.
