Do you like touch screens?

I've never really liked touch screens. I'm not good at them. They always seem to do things I don't intend them to do. I'm very tactile - I like feedback when I push a button to let me know I succeeded in pushing it. I have the same problem with track pads. I never got an ipod or any other mp3 player that had that kind of interface for that reason.

Am I the only one? I know there's this "cool" factor with touch screens, but they just bug me.

I don't like them either. The screens also get too many fingerprints on them. I'd spend most of the time cleaning.

Depends on what you are touching, i.e. what type of device.

1.) I don't like touch screens for typing, I always mess up, especially on small screens like on mobile phones. I prefer a tactile keyboard for typing.

2.) When the screen is small, i.e. on mobile phones, it can be hard at times to get it to do exactly what you want done just right, just simply cause the screen is small. I think touch screens work better on bigger screens with bigger icons.

3.) I do like touch screens when they are big and help with everyday things. For example I like the touch screen ATM machines, I like the touch screens on the retail checker things in grocery stores.

Basically, I like touch screens in general, and see it as the future, AS LONG AS THE SCREEN IS BIG ENOUGH TO USE IT PROPERLY! But I still hate typing on them.

I'm ok with them but I hate typing on them. My new phone is just a touchscreen (and really sensitive) and sometimes it clicks on random things, Its kinda annoying but I quite like it :)

I like the idea of touch screens, but generally speaking they leave a lot to be desired. Commercially implemented ones for kiosks and ATM machines are often lousy. They're a cute feature on consumer devices like cell phones although my disdain for fingerprints tempers my joy there. Perhaps when I get a chance to try the new Blackberry Storm 2 and it's piezoelectric screen I'll come around.

They're okay. My phone is a touch screen phone, and I sometimes screw up when typing phone numbers into it. Other than that though, it works pretty well.

I don't think I'd get one for anything other than a phone or iPod though.

Touch screens are the future! I imagine a world where we interact through touch, and I see the standard keyboard and mouse going away. They really do need to work on the accuracy of touch screens though.

Touch screens are trash, they get dirty and they're annoying to type on. There's nothing more satisfying than typing on a really tactile physical keyboard.

From my mind to your mouth.:techman:

I just got an iPhone and I love it. No problems with the size or usability for me, but I do have inordinately small hands. I imagine that helps.

My phone is a touchscreen, and it works just fine. It does a slight vibrating thing every time you touch a button, so you do get that tactile feedback when you type. I also have an iPod Touch, which works great too.

I hate public touch screens like at the library. Yuck! I have to wash my hands right after touching them. who knows what germs are running rampant.

They have a touch keyboard - http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/8193/

I really want to see and use one (Just for the experience) but I could never afford stuff like that

I won't use them at all. I find it very hard to do them anyway.

iPhone touchscreen = Fantastic, will NEVER go back to buttons

Non-multi-touch touch screens = Eh, ok

Plastic touchscreens = ew

Touchscreens on larger devices (laptops) = Yeah, whatever

I don't much care for touchscreens. I don't own anything that has one. They tend to get 'fingerprinted' way too easily.

On mobile devices, I think they're great. My phone has the non-multitouch variety which gets a bit annoying as it's managed to actually pocket dial once or twice. I don't own any multitouch devices but probably will by years end (50/50 between a Zune HD and iPod Touch right now).

Anything non-mobile... no. Unless we're talking about a Cintiq. But technically that's not a touchscreen. :p
