How much water do you drink?

Tiberius Jim

I recently found out the hard way that I don't drink enough water per day. When I'm thirsty I'll usually got for juice or soda, and rarely every drink any water. Turns out the body, specifically the kidneys, aren't too fond of a constant flow of sugar mixed with a small amount of water. I've never really had a problem before, but I guess at a certain age, as with food, you can't just drink whatever you want. Maybe at 23 I'm officially getting old.

So, I'm trying an experiment. Other than coffee in the morning, and milk in cereal or with dessert, I'm drinking strictly water during the day for the next week. I've heard from friends that drinking that recommended 8 glasses of water a day makes a noticeable improvement in one's health and how they feel in general.

How much does everyone else drink per day? Did you ever go from not drinking much to drinking the recommended amount, and did you notice an improvement in how you felt?

I mostly only drink water, and a lot of it at that. Other beverages really don't appeal to me too much.

Check snopes first.

As a general rule of thumb, most nutrition advice, especially the kind handed out by experts, is incorrect

I drink a lot of water each day. Easily the 8 recommended glasses. When days come up where I don't drink that much water, I really notice the difference in how I feel. I feel more sluggish, and sometimes get headaches if I don't have enough. Water is good stuff.

3 litres. I have a couple of glasses when I get up, a couple of glasses in the day with a snack, a couple of glasses with dinner and a few glasses before I goto sleep (so I wake up quickly in the morning, I get up quickly when I need to pee!). If I've got bottled water, I get through even more. I could probably manage 4 litres if I'm sipping through 500ml bottles constantly for a whole day.

I don't drink any water on it's own, but I do drink lots of unsugared tea which apparently counts.

I drink about 8oz an hour. Never bothered to add it up though since the total depends on how long I'm awake.

Couple of litres usually, plus tea and coffee. I know that they're saying now you don't need to drink losts of water but I feel better for it.

I usually drink between 4 litres and 5 litres of water a day depends how hot it is and if I'm working

I've been trying to increase my water intake, because I've noticed when I skip it, I begin to get headaches. Don't know if it's good science, but it seems to be related.

I think I have at least a litre a day. I do use those Crystal Light thingies to help flavour the water, though.

About two litres a day. There was a time I was lucky if I had one full glass a day, and yes, I felt generally awful all the time.

You should drink between 64 - 96 oz of water a day. Not all of it needs to be plain water and can come from other sources (juice, soda, etc), but just remember that those other sources also contain lots of extra sugar which will be harmful if you're not careful.

I probably drink about a gallon of water a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It was a few years ago when I started actively trying to drink more water, and I definitely noticed an improvement in my overall health.

I haven't been very good about drinking regular, simple water. I will drink it in small doses, like after workout. But 8 glasses? Nope. Most definitely not. I have been drinking vitamin water - essentially flavored sugar water, on par with products like Gatorade. Is it good for you? Meh... the added sugar doesn't help. But the way I see it, it's half the amount of sugar in soda, so it's an improvement.

A gallon or more a day, some times a lot more. Water's really the only thing I drink, I don't drink soda, and I cut back on my beer intake which is mostly only a summer thing anyway.
