After being restricted to cable for these last 11 years, somebody's finally laying down some fiberglass cables in my street. Finally 100Mb/sec internet, both upload and download. Yes!

It's just sad that they've decided to do it now, when I'm getting ready to move out. :(

What's your internet connection? Would you upgrade to something faster when that is available, or does your current one suit you just fine?

Oh, snap. Well, sattelite is a form of wireless, it can be clumped in there? ;)

I don't seem to be able to clear the vote and change the poll, or am I missing something?

Ummmm...

I could be wrong, but glass fibre isn't the same a s fibreglass. But I know what you mean.

As for here (Australia), broadband rollout is an issue. We have DSL and it's good, but we do need better and more reliable than the old copper systems.

when I hear fiberglass I think of car bodies or housing insulation :D
I don't know if fiber optic cables can be called fiberglass

I have cable broadband - 10Mb/s.

The most strenuous downloading I do is on-demand television, so my connection suits me just fine.

Then Wiki does not link to the right page; when I go to Glasvezel and click on the "English" link, it takes me to the Fibreglass page. Should've used a dictionary. :D

My parents only recently were able to get service faster than 56k in their home. Be glad that you had cable the last 11 years and not that.

DSL. It would be nice to have something faster, but it's not a problem really. It runs slower than it is advertised @ 2.1 down 0.7 up, when it's supposed to be 8MB. But that's the price I pay for living in a rural area. I'm about 3km from the exchange.

I guess in the strictest sense fiber optics are made of fiberglass because it's a fiber of glass :D

to the topic at hand, I use cable broadband and the speed is just fine for me, not the fastest, but I'm not inconvenienced when it comes to streaming content or loading images etc

Well, I voted "DSL/it's just fine," because it really is, but what I'd actually like to vote for is "DSL/it's just fine/but I'd still like something faster."

Realistic but demanding, that's me.

I have cable and I'm happy with it, but I voted for "I'd like something faster" because... why not? Compared to what you can get in Japan and a few other nations, the US is in the middle ages.

Cable internet in the house, but with a wireless router so no messy cables laying around. We're also wired for FIOS but I haven't been able to justify the cost for that service, what we have now seems to work just fine for everyone.
