Whoopi Goldberg first celebrity proponent of moon landing hoax

Sure, she had some dumb questions, but I think it's going a little too far to say she's saying it's a hoax.

I wonder if it'll get addressed on the show again, as I'm sure they've been flooded with emails.

Depends on whether or not any of them actually know how to operate a computer well enough to read e-mails. They'll probably just get a researcher to do it.

"I've just been informed that we are receiving messages electronically. Where is this voice in my head coming from, anyway?"

Whoopi Goldberg exploded...six months after we were left here. The shock shifted the orbit of The View and everything was laid WASTE.

That show sounds absolutely hilarious :bolian:
after watching the video its just a US version of "Loose Women" or is "Loose Women" a UK version of "The View" it doesnt matter really both shows are as bad as each other.

After being quoted, I feel that I should mention that I love bad shows and bad films... That I find stupidity entertaining (although not to the point that I actually watch 'reality shows') and often times have a good belly laugh at what loads of people watch and -apparently- find informative.
Not that I'm not horrified at the lack of knowledge about the most pedestrian -imo- things: I'm shocked, actually.

Heck, one of her co-hosts -- Sherri Shepherd -- thought the world might be flat.

In fairness to her, the world did actually used to be flat, but Chuck Norris got sick of hearing people complain about boats and ships falling off the edge, so he roundhouse kicked the world to make it round.

True story.

What Whoopi said was not unreasonable, and the questions she raised are fair ones for someone who has never heard the answers.

I just wish she had raised them in such a way that lent itself to people looking up the answers for themselves, rather than in a way that lends itself to romanticizing a crackpot theory.

The mirror arrays that the astronauts left behind provide a pretty good way to demonstrate the truth of the matter that can be performed by just about anyone. Hopefully they will bring this up in a follow-up conversation on her show sometime soon.

^I looked this show up on Wikipedia. It sounded a lot like a British show called Loose Women which I then found was based on The View.

It's my experience that the people on these shows don't really care about accuracy. I doubt they'll come back to it or admit they were wrong.

Wait a minute ... I don't believe there IS a Whoopi Goldberg! What a fake name! Surely they could come up with something more normal like ... Karen Johnson.

If we faked it, why did the USSR, our mortal enemy, keep our secret? Durr.

Heh, really.

So many of the NASA or other government conspiracy things are easily explained away by the fact that PEOPLE CAN'T KEEP SECRETS. Sooner or later, the truth would "out."

If aliens landed at Roswell, someone would have blabbed. Fake moon shot? The squawking from the Soviets alone would have given the lie to that. September 11? Yeah, the buildings were rigged to blow up and two airplanes loaded with fuel simply could not bring them down. (It's never explained why the government wanted to bring down the buildings.)

^^^ Yeah. The problem with the Moon hoax conspiracies in particular is that as complex as landing on the Moon was, organizing and flawlessly executing a conspiracy that involves hundreds of thousands of people across multiple countries with differing politics and agendas and then keeping it a secret for decades is a far, far more difficult thing to pull off.

Then you have the problem with how do you film a hoax when the effects technology of the day wasn't up to par and without CGI you can't replicate the conditions on the surface of the Moon without actually being on the surface of the Moon or a space station with artificially generated gravity (through rotation) similar to the Moon which would be an equally impressive achievement in its own right?

For instance, even with modern CGI when filming 'From the Earth to the Moon' and Tom Hank's dream sequence of walking on the Moon in 'Apollo 13,' they would kick up dust during the fake moonwalks that would hang in the air longer than it would on the Moon due to lack of air resistance. On the Moon dust kicks up much higher due to the lower gravity but settles back down much more quickly and in a ballistic arc.

I think this goes to show that conspiracies, like any other fringe theory, require a very myopic scope.

It's like the 2012 thing. If you just focus on one part of it, it actually appears to have legitimacy, but once you take a step back and look at "the whole picture," the whole thing falls apart.

Sadly, there are many out there who think it was faked.

I've been given the job of policing NASA's youtube channel.

Yay.

Someone had the great idea that on Monday, the 40th anniversary of Apollo to make NASA the featured channel. This invited every wacko to say "faked" or "staged" or "Harry fucked Dumbledore!!!"

We had over 2000 comments on Monday, I had to delete about a third.
