Ryan Reynolds IS Green Lantern

I'm pleasantly surprised by the news. I didn't really know Reynolds was up for the gig until the other day, when the Timberlake thing was going around. But I can see this working out.

I've got no problem with Reynolds, but I was really hoping he'd get to be the Flash instead. Oh well, he deserves better than Deadpool (no offense to Deadpool fans), so good for him.

Thank goodness they didn't go with Timberlake.

Agreed on all points... I always thought RR would be a great Wally West.

He probably looks more like Hal Jordan than any other actor cast to play a superhero has ever looked like the character "model" - and Jordan has been remarkably consistent, give or take some grey sideburns, for about fifty years. Closer even than Reeve or Routh to ol' Clark.

I wouldn't have really thought so, myself, off the top of my head... but the Reynolds pic they ran with the story on AICN had a certain Paul Newman-ish quality to it, which immediately made me think, "Yeah... yeah, I can see it..."

(For those who aren't aware, Silver Age Green Lantern artist Gil Kane, when designing the character, patterned Hal Jordan after Newman.)

I think this could be a great movie. I'm looking forward to it.

IMDB says it's going to be made in Australia. So we can expect to see half the casts of nieghbours and home and away as extras, and unfortunately, only because he's getting a little typecaste... Hugo weaving will probably be Sinestro.

Hey looky, Stabler, from Law and Order: SVU is hal Jordan in a direct to video cartoon, yup, they still call it direct to video. Odd? Oh SNAP! Victor "jack Bristow" Garber is playing Sinestro.

life goes on.

Both characters are wearing masks.

With even the most ancient camera tricks on hand they could easily have a classic Brave and the Bold team up. :)

You know, I can see Weaving playing Sinestro....and I don't think, even though Marvel and DC are competitors, they'd let the fact that Reynolds is cast as GL stop Deadpool from being made. Hollywood is all about $$$, and if they think a movie will make it, it'll be made.

A couple of years ago, I saw Reynolds in 'Chaos Theory' (don't think too many others saw it!!) and he was really good in a dramatic role. He was the best thing in both Blade:Trinity and Wolverine so I'm looking forward to his take on GL - and Martin Campbell is directing so that's another plus.

You have to admit that one actor playing two different superheroes in the same year is really weird. Something seems off about this news.
One is a minor part in a film released in 2009, the other is a lead role in a film set for release in 2011. I don't see anything weird about that.

Anyway, if this is confirmed I'll be relieved (that it's not Timberlake) and happy (since I thing Reynolds could make for a very good Hal Jordan).

Edit to add: I see it has been confirmed as a done deal by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Woo-hoo! According to them, the final screen tests came down to Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, and Jared Leto. Timberlake tested, too, but it looks like he was out of contention by the end. I'm relieved they didn't go with Leto, too.

Man what is with all the haters on Timberlake? JT as Flash, you heard it here first.

I am actual surprised they are even going the Hal Jordan route. I would have bet money that they would have went the John Stewart and Kyle route in this day and age, but I guess things still have not changed across the board.

I thought Cooper would've been a better choice, but I'm glad that Reynolds at least has a chance to have a franchise. However, I think he would've been much better as the Flash, or Deadpool.

I'm fine with it. Of course I haven't seen him in the Wolverine movie so I don't already have him in my head as a different character.

The only thing I hope is that they let Jordan create lots of crazy, creative things with his ring like in the old comics. I haven't read the new ones, but I know in JLU all he ever seemed to do was form shields and boxes and boring shit like that.

I want to see the giant green hands and giant fly swappers, dammit. :D

For everyone wondering if this is confirmed, here's what you do.

Go to the original post. Click on the link. Read the article. Then, click on the source link at the bottom of said article, which links to the source article in Variety.

See? Easy as pie.

You either know nothing of Tony Stark/Iron Man or your memory is really that short.

Robert Downey Jr was spot on casting and looks as close to if not spot on to the character "model" in the comics.

Congrats to him I'm curious to see what he'll do with the role. Was really hoping for Wally West Flash but I can go with Hal.

Eh, I was hoping for Bradley Cooper. Maybe he can be Dr. Strange. ;) Leto can be the Sub-mariner. Gort knows there are enough superhero roles to go around. I'd even give Timberlake a shot at something, maybe some character I don't give a frak about, just in case.

Wait.. I was just reading the story that they screen tested JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE for the role, but now Reynolds has gotten the part??

He did tests but apparently didn't pass.

Thank goodness, JT as GL would be dumb. Not the Reynolds is a lot better but he's still better in general.

Meh, I personally would have marked for Jeffrey Dean Morgan (he played The Comedian in Watchmen). Reynolds is too young looking.

Rayner? Keanu Reeves would have to be Rayner.

Please tell me you're kidding.

I still say George Eads from CSI would be perfect for Hal.

Reynolds *is* 34 (I believe) so that's a good fit for Hal Jordan.

Reynolds is Peter Pan.

His Birth Certificate don't mean shit.

I saw the Proposal the other day and I swear his character must have been 23, in the same breath that everyone was trying to make Sandra Bullock seem to be 43 just to obfuscate their unforgivable union to seem inobvious.
