STAR TREK: Enterprise – THE ROMULAN WAR: BENEATH THE RAPTOR’S WING
by Michael A. Martin

[trade paperback]

At the start of the twenty-second century unconditional war swept across the Earth. A war that engulfed the great and the small, the rich and the poor, giving no quarter. Each side strove for unconditional victory, and as battle built upon battle the living began to envy the dead.

God, I hope this isn't the final cover. It's absolutely terrible.

Don't mind the cover, although it doesn't really match Last Full Measure (Memorial overlooking the SF bay), Good That Men Do (Trip in EVA) or Kobayashi Maru (NX engulfed in shockwave).

Good to see T'Pol in a Starfleet uniform. Although the image is odd. She has a bad case of Season One hair but with her later, more pronounced arched eyebrows look. Hmmm. Could still be in a work in progress. It's lacking some gloss, for want of a better description. Missing the photo realism of past covers.

Is that blurb temporary though? Either there was another war in the early 22nd Century or WWIII is being retconned. Nah, they can't do that. Zefram Cochrane and all that. FC is the nearest landmark in ENT's history.

"Never judge a book by its cover," they say. Still, I like to see a good cover (and the relaunch covers looked pretty good so far).

WW3 was supposed to happen in the 21st century, so this has to be a mistake.

BTW, the cover makes no sense - Earth is at war, people are dying, yet Archer looks all cool and relaxed (and has season one hairdo), while T'Pol looks like some cutthroat bitch, and her hair looks dreadful. Why couldn't the illustrator just go with season 3 styling?

^ Nice. That's the Andorian Delegate's outfit from Demons/Terra Prime isn't it?

Maybe I'm completely wrong in my attitude about that whole Christie's auction thing. For the longest time, I thought it was a real lousy way to celebrate 40 years. It's great that so much memorabilia has ended up in the hands of fans, who'll do a better job caring for it than CBS evidentally did.

I wouldn't worry too much about that blurb. Stuff like that is usually written by promotional people who don't really know or care about the details of a book. They're just told to make it sound good.

I really hope that's not the final cover, though. What about Archer, T'Pol, T'Pau, Shran, and Gral standing around over a starfield says "Romulan War"? :wtf:

Where is Trip on that cover?

Last we heard of him he was a ceentral character in all of this.

Now if It has been Trip instead of Archer in Front I would go along with the cover.

T'Pau looks like she's about to put a hood over her head, chant Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem, and bash herself with a board. ;)

Guess they can't put him on the cover in his Romulan "get-up". Either that, or they killed him (again) in KM's cliffhanger.

Just kidding about the killing part. If they did, they wouldn't be able to sell any more books.

It shows Archer, representing Earth, and his extraterrestrial allies, making a stand- united- against the xenophobia-driven war machine of the Romulans. Just because there aren't ships exploding on it, doesn't mean it isn't appropriate to a war. :)

Plus their's the whole ending to Last Full Measure to take into consideration.

Eh, I suppose, but it's pretty bland compared to most of the other covers shown on that page.

Hmm, the opening does seem to be referencing WWIII. Perhaps the "twenty-second century" is a typo that will be corrected? Anyway, judging by this tease, I can see why Archer is front and center this time. :) Last cover he had was... "The Expanse", perhaps?

As for the artwork, perhaps it is an early draft. The faces of the characters look like quick cut-and-paste jobs using production stills as sources.

T'Pau - production still from the Vulcan arc. I believe this one was used to create the Starfleet file photo in "The Forge"

Archer - pre-publicity for Season 1

T'Pol - pre-publicity for Season 1 (with an even worse wig than was ultimately used for filming; no wonder the artwork has different hair ;) )

And Graal is wearing the outfit he wore in Babel One, so that might be a production still also.

"Below is the back of the book jacket copy from each book, along with the books covers (note some may not be final copy)."
So I guess we'll see.

Thanks for posting the cover and the information about The Romulan war novel. It's nice to see T'Pol on the cover in a Starfleet Uniform but I think they should've used a picture of T'Pol from season 3. I'm .Also glad to see Shran and T'Pau and ambassador Gral on the cover.

The cover looks pretty good, IMO. I just wonder whether they're going to do the entire Romulan war in this book or are they doing more?

It's just the first part, I think. Carrying the subtitle: Beneath the Raptor's Wing.

That's a quote from The Forge, spoken by the deceased leader of the Syrrannites, about the faction who rejected Surak's teachings and left Vulcan.

Hasn't the phrase "Beneath the Raptor's Wing" been around since the "Rihannsu" novels?

I imagine it has, but there literally hundreds of novels I haven't read. Kudos to Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens for making it onscreen canon though.
