Dark Passions

Where does the "Dark Passions" series of book fit in with the rest? Do they come immediately after "Dark Matters" or in relaunch? Also, how mny book are in the particular series?

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

Dark Passions is a Mirror Universe duology. Doesn't really have anything to do with Voyager specifically. "Bad girl" action, basically.

This duology also takes a different view of Mirror Universe continuity to the current "Mirror Universe" series, which features Voyager characters.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

"Dark passions"fit in to my dustbin quite nicely.

God almighty,I bought both books together and settled in for a good read.:alienblush:
Dressed up slash fiction....sorry.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

So they're really as bad as they sound from the descriptions and stuff on Memory Beta?

No they're not. There are better MU stories, the current trilogy is one example, but they are stories set in the Mirror Universe, and that alone is enough to give them a pass.

If you don't want to spend your money on them, then try your local library, or borrow a friend's copy. Or, buy used.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

Oh, from most of what I've heard before I was under the impression that they were pretty horrible.

Instead of basing your opinion on second or third hand reports, read the books and make your own opinion on them!

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

I actually prefer "Dark Passions" to some of the new Mirror Universe installments. And even though I do appreciate the new continuity between MU stories, I still keep Dark Passions on my shelf. I just accept it as 1 more myriad universe title. My only complaint about the set is that they should have been released as 1 novel; they're so short.

As to complaints that it's slash fiction, there are gay characters in Trek Lit, and we know from the episodes that there are gay charcters in the Mirror Universe, so those aspects didn't strike me as being shocking or out of place at all.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

Look,I am not complaining about the LGBT aspect of Trek.Believe me,as someone with an 'out' family member,I'm glad to see at least some positive gay characters in Trek.
However as has been argued on this board,ad nauseum, the MU depictions of sexuality are, well, less than realistic or enlightened.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

Well, all I know is, after hearing all the reviews and comments about the lurid slash porn that was supposedly in Dark Passions, I found it didn't live up (down?) to the hype in that regard. It didn't go much further with the girl-on-girl stuff than the DS9 MU episodes did.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

I've never quite figured that one out, if som many women are lesbians, and since what the men are doesn't quite seem to figure into the equation, how come there are still so many children born?

There are a lot of things in the Mirror Universe that you just have to accept, even though they make no logical sense.

The idea that so many 24th-century characters from the "prime" universe also exist in some capacity in the Mirror Universe is preposterous on its face. The "butterfly effect" of the Empire, its collapse, and the rise of the Alliance would have had an effect on conceptions, births, upbringings, and the like.

But for the sake of storytelling, we accept that there's a Riker, a Picard, a Troi, etc., in the Mirror Universe.

Personally, I blame the Alien Space Bats.

Re: Voyager Dark Passions

Alien Space Bats (usually shortened as ASB) is a soc.history.what-if term for something that can't be explained away in an alt-history, so it's just fiated to exist.

Since the Mirror Universe is an alt-history, citing ASBs to explain something inexplicable is apropos. :)

I hope that, someday, a future Myriad Universes novels will name-check the Alien Space Bats.
