NBA Playoffs - 2009

I've got the Magic over Lakers in 6...

Their mental toughness is phenomenal... and I don't think the Lakers can stop Dwight. On the flip side, I don't think Orlando has to stop Kobe to win. Hell they can win if Kobe throws up 30 ppg. But if Dwight explodes, its over. I'm taking the leap that Dwight finally has the right mindset.
Bynum sucks this postseason, and while Pau/Lamar is a good front-court, one of them is gonna be chasing Rashard Lewis out at the 3 point line.

I have no idea how this series will go.

I'm glad the Lakers have home court advantage.

It's going to be a long wait until Thursday.

I'm going with the Magic in this one. In six games. Orlando has really impressed me with their toughness this year, and it will carry them through.

VERY impressive performance. Interestingly, it was a blowout achieved by a steady progression of rebounding and good shooting. I can't help wonder if the Cavs took a bit out of the Magic, which when added to the cross-country trip might have made a Game 1 loss for the Magic a foregone conclusion.

I like Dwight Howard, though the bit of post game interview I saw showed that he had no answer for what had just happened.

The Magic will play better this series, but without a steady point to balance the inside out game I don't think they match up well with the Lakers size.

When Kobe gets like that, there really isn't anything you can do. That third quarter was a One Man Basketball Clinic.

There was nothing particularly special about the way the Lakers shot the ball. They shot a decent 48% from the field. What beat the Magic was the Lakers' defense and rebounding. They held the Cavs to 30% shooting and by controlling the boards, they didn't allow second shot opportunities when the Magic missed their shots.

The Magic had approximately 5-6 days of rest before the start of the Finals, same as the Lakers. I doubt seriously if they were feeling any after effects of the Cavs series. The cross country flight didn't seem to bother the Magic in their regular season win over the Lakers at Staples, and that was in the regular season when they had no choice but to arrive in town only one day before the game.

The key will still be the Lakers' defense. They will need to affect and disrupt either Dwight Howard's inside game, or the Magic's outside game. I don't see Howard having another bad game in game 2. However, the Magic didn't play any teams in the east with the size (especially at center, athleticism, experience, and determination, as the Lakers.

Game 2 should be very interesting.

I'm not writing the Magic off until they lose a game at home. The Lakers play great at the Staples Center, usually blowing everyone out. It's a different Lakers team on the road though. The Lakers may win the series, but it might take seven games.

Well, the Lakers won at least one road game in every series (2 in Denver). It's tougher for any team on the road, especially in the playoffs.

We'll see if the Lakers can keep up that kind of defense throughout the rest of the series. It's difficult to believe they can hold Howard to one field goal for a whole game more than once.

You're aware that theoretically, the Magic can win all of their home games and still lose the title, right?

Yes, but I also like Orlando's chances in games six and seven. With three straight wins at home, Orlando would be carrying a lot of momentum into games six and seven back in LA.

Also, the Magic have already have won a seventh game in Boston. I'm not handing the series to Orlando by any means, but I still like their chances.

Fantastic!

The Lakers got pushed tonight, but came through nicely in overtime.

Those free throws by Odom were just what the doctor ordered.

2-0, Baby!!!

:techman:

Good game tonight. I don't have a rooting interest, but from the parts of the game I saw it was always close.

We'll see if Orlando can turn their fortunes around with three straight home games.

Wohoo, around the fourth quarter I was second guessing my decision to pay big bucks to go to the game... but it was totally worth it! Saw Ronny Turiaf trying to talk his way in to the game (He succeeded). Awesome game to watch in person. Well, the end at least, the first three quarters was garbage.

The Magic were insane last night.

I don't think they missed a single shot in the first half.

Nicely done.

:scream:
