First Green Lantern animated trailer

Trailer

Obscure GLs spotted:

Kilowog
Arisia
Boodika
Tomar-Re/Tomar-Tu

Glad that they're focussing on the space angle; GL's solo series is at its least interesting when its planetside.

Also, Sinestro in his modern Sinestro Corps uniform.

Re: First Green Lantern animated trailer

Wow. Looks pretty cool. I've been looking forward to this anyway, but that was a pretty hip trailer.

I'm a little irked by the changes to Abin Sur, giving him a more 'alien' face... but I can see that there might be a need to distance him visually from Sinestro a little bit (both being fairly ordinary, human-looking individuals who happen to have red skin).

Overall it looks cool. I like the costume design--a blend of Hal's current look with a touch of the DCAU/John Stewart uniform. Might be a good look for the live-action GL film.

I was a little surprised to see Sinestro with the yellow ring and Sinestro Corps outfit... from what little has leaked out about this film (the first-look bit from the Wonder Woman DVD and all) I hadn't guessed they were going to carry the storyline that far. I assume that they just went with the Corps uniform since it's Sin's current look, and are skipping past the classic blue-and-black outfit--but I would be surprised to see a full-on Sinestro Corps here.

(Albeit pleasantly surprised, if they manage to work it organically into the plot... could be a set-up for a Sinestro Corps War animated film, which would be pretty cool.)

I am way jazzed to see some more attention to the Green Lantern mythos in media other than comics. The GLC's appearances in the Timmverse animated shows and The Brave And The Bold have been a lot of fun, and I think that Green Lantern has a lot of potential to be a hit if it's handled right.

Re: First Green Lantern animated trailer

Someone probably explained it in overly simplistic terms to the suits: a guy who has powers from a ring. The suits probably got hung up on that and thought it wasn't 'kewl' enough.

Re: First Green Lantern animated trailer

I got the impression that the visual style is maybe evolving a bit... still has elements of the standard Timm/DC look, but there were some action bits that seemed to have an anime influence, perhaps as an aftereffect of the Timm crew's work on Gotham Knight. I remember them saying in the Wonder Woman commentary that working on GK taught them some anime techniques about shading, color, lens filters, and so forth; now maybe they're showing some influence in design and the composition of action scenes. Or maybe I'm just imagining it. Hard to tell from a low-res trailer I couldn't seem to pause.

Re: First Green Lantern animated trailer

^I don't think you're imagining it. There were a few shots where I got that same impression.

Unless we're both imagining it... :shifty:

Boy some of those "Fan made trailers" on Youtube are so good it make's you won't to smack the PTB in Hollywood in the head and ask them why they won't make those Movies for real...instead of some of the crap they give us.

I can't tell you how excited I am at the potential of an actual live-action Green Lantern movie. That trailer does a good job at creating a type of universe that would blow anything comic-book film related out of the water in terms of scope and scale. I've always said that the perfect tone for a GL movie would be a cross between Richard Donner's Superman and the original Star Wars. Hell, the new Star Trek, as clearly evidenced in that trailer, is a damn good template for how to approach a GL adaptation.

Too bad Nathan Fillion won't even be considered for Hal, though. He'd be perfect. This trailer might even be the best evidence to support this claim.

Re: Best fanmade trailer ever? Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

Impressive.

Re: Best fanmade trailer ever? Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

Hmm...I want to be impressed, but I was too distracted by all the other movies I'd seen!

It also doesn't help that I don't know anything about the Green Lantern. Apparently he fights Andorians?

Re: Best fanmade trailer ever? Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

Not bad. But there was a Thundercat one I saw a couple months ago that was better. Fillion would make a good GL though.

Re: Best fanmade trailer ever? Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

Ok but to much comedy in it for me. The ring hitting him in the head was just dumb.

Re: Best fanmade trailer ever? Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.

The thundercats one is better.
