Star Trek needs an Acronym

I'm going with nuTrek. The term can also encompass subsequent productions in the same vein.

I think nuTrek refers to this timeline as it will hopefully manifest in ST:XII, a tv series and books. It's not specific to this movie unless this timeline stops here.

Yeah, but until those things actually manifest it'll do for me. I don't like the implication associated with using "STXI" as the appellation that the film is a continuation of what's come before. "ST09" is too easily confused with Nemesis, and "Star Trek (2009)" is too unwieldy for casual use. Folks can call it whatever they like, though. We'll get by.

I seem to recall some folks calling it ST:TFB (for "The Future Begins", the tagline on the poster). I kinda like that.

I'm surprised no bashers have chimed in with STINO... Star Trek In Name Only :P

I'm not sure what sounds best to me, but one thing is for damned sure, it must be 2 characters long. Must.

Star Trek would refer to the entire franchise, not just this iteration.

TOS for The Original Series
TNG for The Next Generation
VOY for Voyager
DS9 for well you know...
ENT for Enterprise

TMP or ST1 or STI for The Motion Picture.
TWOK or ST2 for Wrath of Khan
SFS or ST3 for Search for Spock
TVH or ST4 for Voyage Home
FF or ST5 for Final Frontier
UC or ST6 for Undiscovered Country
Gen or ST7 for Generations
FC or ST8 for First Contact
Ins or ST9 for Insurrection
Nem or ST10 for Nemesis
?? or ST11 for Star Trek 2009

nuTrek or any of those would refer to this entire alternate timeline, not just the single film. The easiest way to avoid confusion is to call it what it is: ST11. (Can't do the roman numerals, sorry).

I like STXI. Especially since this film didn't have a second title, this is really the only logical choice.

Although someone above pointed out that the posters had the tagline "The Future Begins". I suppose that's a good a title as any to rename the movie once it had sequels.

I prefer ST09 since I don't think it necessarily fits into the chain of previous films (in a chronological sense, if nothing else). The 0 should distinguish it from Insurrection.

Or you could just expect that people will know whether you're talking about the movie or show based on the context in which you use the term. For example, when I say I think "Star Trek" had a better season 1 than DS9 or TNG, you know I'm talking about the TV series, rather than the movie. Do they have an abbrieviation at Memory Alpha? People seem to have liked using their other ones like "NEM", "VOY", and "ENT" in the past. You could just follow their lead again.

STXI, not ST09 because that doesn't make sence. Well, it does, but we don't call TNG, TNG91, or TOS64.
