It's not Spock - worrying?!?!?!

Cheapjack

Fleet Captain
I've just overheard two people talking in a newsagents, looking at at ST magazine with Zachary on the cover.

'It's not Leonard Nimoy', one of them said.

'It's not the same'.

Perhaps I was right when I said they should have used the trailer with Leonard Nimoy in it, in the UK?

No, I don't think you were right. Nimoy is a bonus for the old fans I suppose but the new movie is ultimately about the new guys and their journey.

First of all, overhearing 2 random people say something doesn't mean much and doesn't indicate any overall trend.

Second, they didn't say It's not Spock.
As you say in your post they said "It's not Leonard Nimoy" "It's not the same"
Which may also be translated as "It's not Leonard Nimoy, It's not the same. Finally, about time they did something new with Star Trek"

But even if they meant it in a negative way, so what ?
People need to get it through their heads already. Time flies, people get old and things change...

They'll accept the new guy as Spock fast enough. And the rest as well. They've been recast well enough overall, and people do tend to get used to whatever is in front of their faces.

Of course you were right because you know better than the marketing department for the film. I mean, seriously... that's a "duh" thing.

Unlike them, you have the foresight to understand that they should be marketing this movie to guys in their 50's instead of the 25 and under audience who have never even heard of Leonard Nimoy.

Because, of course, in order for the franchise to survive in needs to focus on the middle-aged because they represent the future generation of film goers.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, this film will quite easily prove itself and become a hit with everyone.
nice avatar! trying to sell some oil of oregano, are we?;)
;)

Nah that trick doesn't work. Do what I'm doing; eat pork rinds to build an immunity! ;)

And yeah, I think if they get in the theeater, all will be right in the new world with them. No it's not Nimoy, but no amount of makeup could make Nimoy become Spock at the beginning of his carreer at Starfleet.

No, simply spreading the word of an amazing medicine.
wow! what a turnaround! the last time we talked you said it tasted horrible. i guess it helped though , huh?;)

I got around it! I've started buying some cheap Echinacea capsules and then emptying half the contents and filling the rest up with about 5 drops of Oregano oil. I don't taste a thing and I get all the benefits!! :techman:
Best not to discuss it here though in TrekXI, we'll get in trouble. ;)

So let's get back on topic. ;)

If this Trek had not been made by Abrams, somebody else down the road would surely have tried to jump start the franchise. Let's face it. It's a cash cow. And anybody who thinks that with a cast (two of whom are dead) as aged as our beloved TOS crew is could have made; or been included in, a great movie is delusional. I miss, miss, miss my Kirk, my Spock my Bones etc, but this is the new face of Trek. Hopefully Abrams has produced a quality product. Hopefully the new actors "fit" their respective roles as we know them. And hopefully they want to reprise these roles for future movies.
