Current state of the Star Wars Galaxy?

Now I've only ever seen the movies and maybe read one or two books but I do manage to try and keep up to date occasionally by going to Wookipedia or TFN and do know that more than 30 years has passed by since RoTJ and that another war has been fought but I was wondering how far from RoTJ the Expanded universe is set in and what the Political, Technological and Social state the Galaxy is in?

Reason I ask is becuase I stumbled onto an article about the first named female Stormtrooper from the Legacy comic book series that is set 130 years ABY and realised that the Sith still exist and that Stormtroopers still exist and and are still wearing the same armour (from what I could tell from one picture) that they wore over a 100 years previous.

Is the Star Wars universe in a stagnanted society where nothing changes over time and everything they have stays the same? The only major devleopment I think we saw was between the Clone war era and the New Republic era but it doesn't seem to have changed that much since. Am I wrong here?

In FATE OF THE JEDI, The Galactic Alliance (Which is what the NR became in the NJO) is recovering from another civil war in which Jacen Solo became a Sith Lord. Former Imperial Admiral Daala is now in charge, and things aren't rosy for the Jedi.

Between FATE and the LEGACY comics, the Sith reemerge and the peace between the Alliance and the Imperial Remnant crumbles, allowing the Empire to gain control again. However, what's different this time is that there are essentially two Imperial factions-one led by the Fel Dynasty (Jagged Fel-and presumabely Jaina Solo's-descendants), and the other led by the Sith (Originally led by Darth Krayt/A'shared Hett, but things have changed a bit). Both have Stormtroopers (BTW the armor has been slightly redesigned, just not hugely). The galactic alliance is also still around, although they are more or less the Rebels again.

Although LEGACY has received much criticism for undoing a lot of the original trilogy, it's actually quite well done. And the well-received KOTOR games are just as quilty at being redundant in the case of showing Star Wars being a stagnant society.

Okay, that crud where they skip ahead 100 years in a comic and the Sith Empire is back is an alternate history thing, its not real.

No, it is real. The "present day" of the Star Wars universe is now the era in which the Legacy comic takes place. And it's much better than what's going on in the novels right now.

Current State of the Star Wars Galaxy: UPDATE!

This is from the Old Republic forums regarding certain orientations that characters in Star Wars certainly have.

Mmm. Tastes like some group of people didn't exist a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Well, it's fictional of course, but it's not more fictional than any other part of the Star Wars franchise.

I'm sure there's homosexuals in Star Wars. If its ok for a human to fuck giant hamsters or otters or whatever the Selonians are, and also ok to be a robosexual, then I'm sure noone would bat an eyelid at two people of the same sex makin' the beast with two backs.

the Yuzon Vong conquored the galaxy but were defeated single-handedly by Jar-Jar's force ghost

I went to the TOR forum to see what that was about. Seems he backpeddled since making that post.

This post might contain spoilers.....

The present is currently being written in the Fate of the Jedi series, a nine book hardcover series. The galaxy is still recovering from the Yuuzhan Vong War, an extragalactic invasion that happened during the New Jedi Order maxiseries (19 novels), and the Second Galactic Civil War from the Legacy of the Force series (a nine book series, three hard covers and six paperpacks).

The major powers are the Galactic Alliance, formerly the New Republic. It's headed by Chief of State (i.e. Chancellor) Daala, a former Imperial who is distrustful of the Jedi. Her selection as Chief of State was controversial among many fans, myself included, because of her previous history of anti-Republic activity.

There is also the Imperial Remnant-this is what's left of Palpatine's Empire. It is headed by Jag Fel, the sometime boyfriend of Jaina Solo (daughter of Han and Leia, and their only surviving child).

Lastly there is the Confederation, consisting of Corellia and I believe four other planets. Basically, the 2nd Civil War was fought between the Alliance and the Confederation, but the war was somewhat resolved offscreen but had pretty much fallen into the background even before then as LOTF focused on Darth Caedus (Jacen Solo, Jaina's twin). The Jedi, Imperial Remnant, the Confederation, and parts of the Alliance joined forces to stop Darth Caedus.

While all that is going on, a new Sith Order is being built on Korriban. The leader is a former Jedi, A'Sharad Hett. His Sith name is Darth Krayt. A survivor of the Yuuzhan Vong War, he was infected by them, and he wears Yuuzhan Vong armor. He turned to the dark side after the end of the Clone Wars. His Sith Order, called the One Sith, actually rejects the rule of two established by Darth Bane and followed up to Darth Caedus. The Jedi currently don't know about this One Sith. The One Sith play a role more in the Legacy comics which are set decades later. The Legacy comics had established that the One Sith were able to avoid detection for decades before unleashing their revenge on the Jedi.

In FOTJ, there is another Sith threat to contend with. Our heroes will encounter a Lost Tribe of Sith, perhaps in book two of the series.

I would imagine there's a lot more readership following the novel series than the comic book series. Personally I'm all about the books but I've never seen a page of the Legacy comic book.

I'll probably end up getting the trades one of these days. Comics are expensive and I have no money ;)

Can't be Andromeda. Neither the Kelvins nor the Archein sport flashy white armor.
