SO.... the Nacelles apparently DO VECTOR a bit. :rommie:

Will be kinda cool to see the Navigational Deflector grow and shrink...

(...though images of a Foreskin pop immedately into mind... )

Will this mean that The COG will be bringing back his Doggy-Prise Avatar?

:lol::rommie::lol:

There's why the Enterprise design sucks, GL couldn't let Trek upstage his Wars Empire so he instructed his boys at ILM to make sure it was crap.

Re: new Enterprise for TrekXI - ILM details scifiwire

Doesn't anybody want to talk about the ACTUAL ARTICLE...?

Re: new Enterprise for TrekXI - ILM details scifiwire

It certainly doesn't sound like ILM set out to rape anyone's childhood.

That moving deflector dish might be the equipment to do it, though.

Damn... there's that Foreskin image again....

So the design changes were implemented to make this Enterprise more of a child's toy (i.e. lots of moving parts).

Fascinating.

Because no real machinery or equipment of any importance, now or in the future, includes or will include moving parts.

The naysayers are really having to stoop for new criticisms.

Re: new Enterprise for TrekXI - ILM details scifiwire

Nevermind the pretty rotating bussards and blinking lights found on the ship.

Re: new Enterprise for TrekXI - ILM details scifiwire

I got a chuckle imagining heads exploding at this comment:

I don't know how familiar you are with all of the terminology of the Enterprise, but there is a main hull, which is the big disk. There is a secondary hull, which is a tube, and then you have two engines. And at the front of the bottom sort of cylinder there is this thing called the "collection plate" [aka the navigational deflector, in Trek parlance].

So is the "collection plate" only deployed on Sunday mornings?

True! Obviously, they're really just masturbating at their desks :).

That article scares me - I prefer designers whose first thought isn't "how cool would this be?" It sounds like the main intent is for the story to serve the FX, rather than vice versa.

Whatever happened to Ryan Church? I thought he was supposed to have designed the new ship; the article makes it sound like the 'geeks down in digital' just threw stuff at the screen to see what stuck, without a plan going in.

No, Tuesday the 47th. :)

You have a good point. Hopefully it's not just cool for the sake of cool. ;)

I was wondering that myself. :shifty:

Maybe there is no Ryan Church?

I liked how the Scifiwire editor felt compelled to clarify "[aka the navigational deflector, in Trek parlance]."

No, I've always thought this Enterprise was ugly, I just didn't realized it was redesigned specifically to appeal to children until I read this article.
