After much back and forth, Mickey Rourke is officially set to appear as a "Russian villain" (Crimson Dynamo?) in Iron Man 2.

Mickey Rourke rocks! His life is a friggin trainwreck though. I think like Downey's story many in the Hollywood industry didn't want to know him or appreciate his talent as an actor. Normally I'm not a fan of sequels or remakes but IronMan deserves one and it will be interesting to see these 2 play off each other.
For fuck's sake, RDJ will be on the set. I don't think that's gonna be an issue. 
Yeah with Downey and Rourke together on set you had better believe they'll be taking precautions 
Usually I'd be happy to see Scarlett Johansson in tight black leather, but I just don't see her as Black Widow.
I could see Scarlett Johnasson as Yelena Belova, the 2nd Black Widow who appeared in late 90s and was around for a few years...recently returned as part of Norman Osborne's little Thunderbolts murder squad.

Seriously though, I'm glad to see the Mickster landing a high profile gig after his success with The Wrestler. I'd hate to think that the awards and nominations led to a false career dawn (think Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights or Peter Fonda in Ulee's Gold). Hopefully this will help do for hom what IM did for Robert Downey jr. Additionally, IM had a really talented cast, which helped elevate it from the superhero norm, and someone of Rourke's calibre is a suitable follow-up to the likes of Jeff Bridges.

You know what? As long as you bring back RDJ and the Fav, I really don't care about anyone else. In fact, in this economic downturn, I don't think its feasable to try to make a Marvel universe franchise of movies, especialluy if they keep hiring A-List talent on both sides of camera. Plus, you'll have different directors with different visions of their particular character. Which single director will helm the never-will-happen-in-live-action Avengers movie? It's just all too much.
Rourke hasn't really been hard-up for roles to the point where he's co-starring in straight-to-DVD movies with C. Thomas Howell and Eric Roberts, or doing those Seagal/Snipes/Van Damme/Lundgren cheapo action flicks. Sure, his leading man roles dried up -- but Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Man on Fire, Domino, Sin City, The Rainmaker -- he has a decent character actor career now. He'll never be the second choice if the studio can't get Crowe, Cruise, Pitt, Washington or Hanks to headline their movie, but it's not about that anymore.
Rourke was lucky that Tony Scott and Robert Rodriguez kept looking out for him and giving him roles, even when he was persona non grata with most of Hollywood.
I suppose. But he is, for my money, one of the greatest actors alive. Up there with DeNiro, Norton, Depp, Day-Lewis and the likes. Small character roles in movies just don't give us enough of him. I think his talent merits leading roles. But I know what you mean - sometimes decent character roles are more rewarding than the leading ones.
