There's a biological reason for that - you're ovulating and your body is preparing to implant the fertilized ovum. To get an ovum fertilized, you need to have sex, ergo your sex drive increases.
But I've been surprised by it from the wife a couple of times.

My most serious bit of advice is this -- do everything you think you have to do in this life before you have kids. Travel, finish your education, establish your career, whatever it is that you know you will regret not doing when you're 90.
My wife and I decided we wanted to "enjoy being married" before trying to start a family. Little did we know then that it would take 9 years and a double adoption from Russia. In the interim, there was a lot less "enjoyment of the marriage".

When we were doing fertility treatments, my wife had to have internal ultrasounds to measure the size of the follicles to determine if they were likely to produce an egg. When I saw the instrument that had to be used, I told my wife, "if that thing vibrates, I'm out of a job". Her ob/gyn laughed.
