I used to have a hard-on for the pilot gel-ink ones in highschool, can't remember what the name was but they were black and clear with a button on the back end and a clip. As I recall, the ink cartridge was really thick and left a yellow film as the ink receded from use. They weren't much good for drawing though, so I eventually dropped them for standard bic ballpoints, which I generally have in black, red and blue at all times. I don't do much writing that anyone will see these days, so there isn't much use for fancy pens in my life.

It's kind of a cliche in my industry, but my favorite pen is the Montblanc Meisterstuck ballpoint. Instead of the gold, I went with the platinum.
Any pen that you can buy in a package doesn't send the right message when meeting with clients or peers.

If I could keep the same pen two times in a row, I might have a favorite, but alas... and you'd think with all my pen experience I'd be quite the connoisseur.

I have a Parker Frontier ballpen at the moment - half chrome, half navy blue. I quite like it. My favourite pens, however, are the cheap and cheerful Niceday ones that the office stationer buys. They're really cheaf and naff, but I love the way they write.

But it depends on what I'm writing. I like the pental gel pens for general note taking because they're a nice size, smooth writers, and rich. But more often than not, I use high quality retractable pencil for writing. I just seem to prefer graphite to ink.
But when I do use ink, it's almost always black ink. I've never understood why blue ink should be so popular.
edit: Having said that, I notice I do have a wide selection of coloured gel pens on my desk... Colours can be fun. But if I think 'writing pen', I'll go for the black one.

I prefer a good fountain pen, but they are not that good as a "daily writer" type of pen anymore sadly enough. So I opt for a razor ball myself.
Oh, and I prefer black ink and a fine or extra fine tip.

I will only use regularly an EasyTouch pilot pen that's black and super fine.
It's the best pen I've found that won't run all over this lefties hand.

my current pen that I take everywhere is a Pilot PreciseGRIP Extra Fine
past favorites have been the Pilot Dr. Grip, Pilot VBall, Pilot G2, and Cross Ion
also I modded my own 'teacher's pen'
took the end cap off of a Bic round stic, and took the business end of another bic and put them both together in the same shaft . . . instant(almost) red and blue double ended pen
I use it to color code notes and stuff I need to jot down at the office
I have yet to find my perfect pen . . .
speaking of being a lefty . . . I tend to 'hook' my hand slightly so that the line I just wrote passes just under the heel of my hand at the wrist, thus no ink smudge

I prefer a pencil -you know: the lacquered wooden thingamagoo (but not ones with attached eraser)- but when I positively have to use a different tool I pick up one of those inexpensive disposable uni-ball micro's because it has the clip attached to the cap so it won't irritate my hand while writing.
