Dean Spockwell as Archer? Mark Hamill? Reginald Vel Johnson?

Aquehonga

Fleet Captain
Dean Spockwell would've been great as the NX-01's skipper. As a plus DS was in a TZ episode (“A Quality of Mercy”) with Lenny Nim:vulcan:y:cool:

Instead we're stuck with Captain Beckett & the Galacteers:brickwall::D

Then Count Bakula would've been the Special Guest Star instead:hugegrin:

I wonder if in that situation TPTB&B would've mucked up Scotty B.'s visit the way Spockwell's was b:mad:tched!

Dean Spockwell would've made for a superior Captain Archer:)

Mark Hamill, while forever SW's iconic Luke Skywalker, would've been extremely appropriate casting as Captain Archer. Hamill's Archer would've tied the knot much better between ST & SW than Clive Revill's ST:TNG guest-spot.

Beckett's Archer was too square-like & “Herbertish” alot!

Hamill would've brought charismatic “Jedi spark” to both Archer & ST in general.

Reginald Vel Johnson of Die Hard & Family Matters fame would've made an interesting Archer. Vel Johnson would bring charisma, humor, & down to Earthness to Archer Beckett never could. Vel Johnson seems like someone you might work with or had as a coach in HS. Not the virtu-“stiff” Beckett is.

Another aficionado suggested Marc Alaimo as Archer. That would've been really c:cool::cool:l & interesting.

My personal choice for Captain Archer is Dean Spockwell.

You?

Dean Stockwell doesn't work for me, frankly. Neither does Mark Hamill (everytime he got into the pilots seat I'd be thinking "use the force, Luke!").

Besides, your proposed substitutions wouldn't have really changed anything... The actors you've listed would have been stuck with the same weak writing/characterization Scott got.

Who the hell is Dean Spockwell?

NOT A CHANCE!!! Scott Bakula was as good as it was going to get as far as a good leading man/Captain. Plus I think if B&B had just TRIED and given Bakula more meat to his roll I doubt we would be having this discusion.

Wow, talk about the worst thread ever...
Aw, hell, I'll play.

Dean Stockwell
- maybe as Archer's goofy stepbrother Linda
Mark Hamill - He'd excel as Trip's gay brother Albert (but who would play Miguel then? Mario Lopez?)
Reginald Vel Johnson - Well, I can see him as Reed perhaps, but Archer? Nah...
Marc Alaimo - Hmmm, Archer played by him really would knock T'Pol on her ass, f'sho!

My pick for Jonathan - Jason Alexander! That way he'd been able to make up for "Think Tank," that episode sucked ass. Also, I would cast Lucy Liu as Hoshi and Alexondra Lee as T'Pol (no wig!). Eugene Levy would do great as Phlox, and Chad Michael Murray would be a kick ass Trip, straight up!
Oh, and I almost forgot the helm officer! Someone like Mary Kate Olsen would look great at the conn, though I doubt her acting skills so I'd rather go with Kirk Acevedo (Maybe even Tom Welling)...

The more I think about it, the more that Dean Stockwell and the women from Sex in the City make sense as the crew of Enterprise. Then it could have been "Charlie's Angles" in space and got more support from the network. :bolian:

What do you mean? He was the star of the show, the captain. Everything went through his character. When he was faced with any decisions, he acted like he had a massive case of constipation.

I'll grant that writing was a huge issue in this series. But I never for a moment thought Scott Bakula had the chops to play a starship captain.

I think Bakula has plenty of chops, but not every actor can just slip into absolutely any role. Either the producers failed to cast an actor suited to the character they created, or the writers failed to tailor the character to the actor.

I never said he couldn't act... I said he was a poor choice for a starship captain.

My thoughts exactly. :wtf:

Aquehonga, Looking over the last several threads you've started here, I suggest you work for topics that are less spam-tastic and more substantive. Work hard.

And please stop abusing the tag privilege. One or two tags maximum from now on, that actually make sense.

(Nice pic, BTW, Gep.)

i find the cast great like it is!

i can see anyone else in their roles.

even if, according to me, he made some mistakes on his acting, bakula was great as Archer.

i have nothing against dean stockwell. he was great in quantum leaps and he is great in BSG (calvill), but as Archer, definitively NO!

Dean Stockwell had some interesting roles as a Child Actor. Usual, some good, some bad and some in between.

He played in KIM with Errol flynn, "the boy with Green Hair" and the Secret Garden with Margret O'brian.

He had other roles but I canot remember them.

So, he is and was a very seasoned actor when he had his role in enterprise.

As Archer? No, He was always better as a second banna.

Bakkula? Thought he was miscast as Archer. In Quantum Leap he was good.
