Spoilers TNG: A Singular Destiny by Keith R.A. DeCandido review thread

Come, could you guys tell us? In spoiler coding of course.
I think people should wait and read the book-- it'll be more fun that way, honest-- but if you absolutely can't wait, I suppose there's no harm in saying that
two of those listed as "confirmed dead" in a casualty report are Miral Paris and B'Elanna Torres.
Like I say, whether the report is right or not, the future looks interesting.

Hmm, very intersting. Especially given where we saw that character's closest relation in the last book.

Wow, poor Tom - losing his father, his wife, and his daughter in one fell swoop.

Frak and Frell, I'm actually in shock after reading that tit bit of information.

B'Elanna could have just gone into hiding and is only letting everyone think she's dead. Either way I'm hoping we find out in Full Circle.

I have a question, my map accuracy is probably wrong... but how can the Federation be completely surrounded? At least to a point they're bordered by Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians... so... is that not to be taken literally? Or is my map off? Or is my thinking not 3D enough...

First off, DarkHorizon, thanks for the review!

Blending in between chapters are snippets of various documents, transcripts, and other material - along the lines of DeCandido’s work in the Shards and Shadows story “Family Matters” - to further establish the situation the Star Trek universe finds itself in. And these aren’t just throwaway asides, either - two in particular have major impact, one (between Chapters 7 and 8) especially so, which had me cursing DeCandido rather loudly for being such a magnificent bastard…

MINE IS (still) AN EVIL LAUGH!

Oh, Mere Mortals. My bad, sorry. I thought you meant Mere Anarchy. (It's the "Mere" that threw me.) Which was reported on Psi Phi as having had its orders through Diamond cancelled last week.
Oh fuck me sideways, really? :scream:

You're being too literal. :)

Yeah, when I started reading through the casualty listing, I was just expecting to see unfamiliar names with a shout out name and maybe a character seen a few times in previous books or even a major guest star of an episode - not
Miral and B'Elanna. Of course, given that we only get names and haven't had a death sequence, I remain cautiously hopeful that this is just KRAD being evil to us - he IS, after all, giving us the evil laugh at the moment. When's Full Circle due again?

But, damn. Seems like someone decided that Tom Paris is the designated 'torture monkey' at this point. His father, his daughter, his wife... what, did you guys kill his DOG too?

I think I will never figure out this spoiler coding here and there is so much now on the tip of my tongue... But I better wait and just say that my interest in that book people are referring to in the spoiler protection space dropped considerably. I will still get the book but I am in no hurry to read it.

Nevertheless, I am very much looking forward to "A Singular Destiny".

I don't suppose anyone could transcribe a the casualty list for those of us who don't mind spoilerisms?

Just type your text and highlight it. Then you have to click on the very last symbol in the line where you can turn on bold, italic etc. (the smiley with a X as mouth). Next you have to type what the spoiler is about in the box that will pop up. Just confirm and it should work. :)

I was going to say it didn't contain any familiar names besides the ones that have been discussed in spoiler boxes. However, in checking it, I see the name of at least one more significant character that nobody seems to have remarked upon yet, and two names of minor characters that I recall having seen before. Other than that, it's just a bunch of unfamiliar names, so there'd be no use in transcribing the full list.

^Looking more closely and doing a bit of research I recognize
Captain George Sanders and Sorlak
but I can't get the third, if those are even the two minor ones you were thinking of.

OMG!! They killed [redacted]?? Don't you care about all the [redacted] fans you've pissed off, and who will never buy another book where [redacted] is still dead?!?

BRING BACK [redacted]!!!
