I didn't see this one coming....I hope something changes and he gets the part

Samuel L. Jackson won't be appearing as Nick Fury in future Marvel Studios features says The Los Angeles Times.

The actor, who made a cameo as the character in a post-credits scene of "Iron Man", says talks about him returning to the role have broken down.

"There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don't know. Maybe I won't be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], 'We're not making that deal.'"

Asked about it, the studio said "Marvel does not comment on active negotiations".

Well if SLJ is asking for mucho bucks because he thinks this is another "starring" role... good riddance, rather have the budget put on actors that would add to it, or more time in the production to make a quality movie.

Considering that they probably used his likeness in their comics for years now (and even more likely without his permission), I think they owe him quite a bit. Especially since I have no doubt they were the ones who approached him for the role in the first place.

They got his permission for that, I thought.

This just in... Terrence Howard has been cast as Nick Fury. And Samuel L. Jackson is going to play Rhodie in Iron Man 3. :p

I hear they are making Fury white again for the upcoming movies.

The Hoff is said to be the most likely candidate for the part

:p

who cares! for christ sakes the guy seems to be in just about every other movie released these days. it's samuel jackson overkill.

I was led to believe that he was just too damn flattered to sue.

If it was just Bendis and Millar being smart arses, I can see him allowing it to pass, rather than it was a decision from on high at marvel.

An economic crisis at Marvel..........................again?
How many times will this company mis-manage it's money before they learn?

Samuel L Jackson gave his permission for the use of his likeness as Nick Fury in the Ultimates, which was Millar's doing, not Bendis'

and seriously, who the hell are they gonna get to replace him?

SLJ will always be Fury, cuz I've still got the comics!

Initially, it looked like Favreau wouldn't be back to direct IM2, then that was resolved. Then Howard wasn't brought back to play Rhodes. I'm hoping that the situation with SLJ echoes the first and not the second. Ok, Fury isn't essential to the IM sequel, but a larger role for him would help set up an Avengers movie. And having already recast one fairly major role, it seems silly to do the same for another. We geeks like our continuity! Bring back Sam!

Still, if the ongoing negotiations don't work out, I say get Lawrence Fishburne ...

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO TYPE THAT LOL - GET out of my head exodus! HAHA I was just watching an older DS9 with Sisko bald and with the goatee and thought 'YES, THAT'S NICK FURY'

And they COULD always go back and reshoot the 'easter egg' from IM1 for an Iron Man 1.5 thing...

Or they could include Spencer Smythe in the next film so Brooks can go "Spencahh!"

I could see Tommy Lee Jones as 616 Fury. But I would prefer Sam Jackson. This f'n sucks. I was so looking forward to this damn it.

I hope they work something out...although they don't really need Fury in Iron Man 2 but maybe for the upcoming Captain America and Avengers movies he should have a large role. Avery Brooks would be an excellent choice and always pictured him and Sam Jackson as Fury in Ultimates. I thought that they could use public figures as characters in books because they're public figures...they use politicans all the time and you don't hear anything about them sueing. I thought that Jackson was flattered and thought it was really cool when it was first brought to his attention and decided not to do anything.
