U.S. Deaths in Iraq & Afghanistan Decline Dramatically in 2008

"The Great Leap Forward" was nearly 50 years ago. The world would not be so accepting of such a toll today especially if it was caused by a blockade imposed by a Western country.

10+ million corpses disagree.

The world is bitching NOW because we're in Iraq. Certainly not the apathy you expect the world to have if we were to kill a couple million Chinese.

The reason why the world didn't care then and does care now is...ya know what? I'm not even going to explain it to you. If you don't get it then I can't help ya out.

(... play the ball, not the man, play the ball, not the man...)

Just looping back for a moment...

But decisions about a nation can't be made while harping on individual tragedies.

So, to be clear, you don't mind the 'individual tragedies' happening... just as long as it isn't your individual tragedy?

People rip the Bush Admin a new one because most of them avoided the draft during the Vietnam War, I'd just like to point out.

John Donne:
“Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind.”
I agree, friend or enemy, any man's death diminishes us all. Especially unnecessary death. Iraq is unnecessary.

This week we've seen Israel condemned because of their heavy handed actions in Gaza. Now I get why Israel is pissed off (and think Hamas are a bunch of cowards), but this is overkill, in all senses of the world. Right now, Israel is on a lot of people's shit list.

Now, imagine if the US does what you say, not just for China but the other countries mentioned.

It would NEVER be off the world's shit list ever again.

China will never intentionally provoke the US into this kind of action, it isn't worth it financially or culturally. Do you even know the meaning of the word 'diplomacy'? There are reasons why it exists, very very sound ones.

This thread is an EPIC FAIL. It's FAIL... but it's EPIC. I'd like to see it keep going, if only to find out is the OP will concede a little ground on this issue. And actually, some good points about the world we live in have been raised. Just a shame they are against the OP.

Problem there is that Republicans went after Clinton for his draft dodging especially when he wanted to deploy U.S troops yet when Bush did to the point of starting a war in Iraq those same people are all the way with GWB.

If the topic was abortion, the OP would be ranting above how it's murder yet he clear advocates wars of aggression that would kill millions.

The hypocrisy of people like dayton is truly staggering.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggy"....until you can find a rock.

Without the willingness to use violence, there is no such thing as diplomacy

Well, as far as entertaining threads go, this one is certainly high on my list. It'd be funny if you,Dayton3 weren't being serious, but thanks for the insight how your minds works, I doubt there's anyone left on this forum that takes you seriously anymore after this clusterfuck.

I'm sorry, that to me is blatant trolling.

The FAIL rolls on.

And you're still ignoring the question of why would China provoke the US? It makes no sense at all, other than pandering to some kind of war fantasy from the 60s or 70s.

And while I think about it, as a teacher, didn't you go to college/uni? Are you conceding now that perhaps you shouldn't have?

I'm beginning to see a pattern. If there's a question that will force D3 to answer in a way that doesn't conform to his worldview, it'll be ignored.

Case, as someone once said, closed.

Assuming that the US knows where they all are, which they most certainly do NOT.

How do you know that?

The locations of all Soviet ICBMs was known and they had around 1,500 at one time.

Really? Including mobile launchers and subs? Link please.

Still waiting. I'd HATE to think that you'd just pulled that out of your ass, as that would make you a dirty fucking liar. To be 100% clear, I'm not calling you a dirty fucking liar. Rather, I am asking you to demonstrate that you are NOT a dirty fucking liar.

Please do.

STOP the personal attacks. This nonsense does NOT skirt the rules against flaming, CG.

I read the articles on U.S. preemptive strike capabilities in 2004- Foreign Affairs magazine (against Russia) and in 2005-The Atlantic (against China).

I have no idea if either of those articles are accessible on the internet anymore.

And I'm not going to search for them. I read them. I told you what the experts in question said and that is all there is to it.

So we should just take your word for it?? That's not how this works, Dayton. If you are incapable of backing up a claim, DON'T make the claim. Just because you're posting in Misc doesn't mean that you won't get called on bullshit.

That's seems to be the MO of people like him. They make a claim, after a while they say they can't back it up nor should they because the website has been moved or whatever.

Why would I lie?

While everyone lies at some point, scoring points in a discussion board argument would seem to be a very poor motive for it.

And I doubt that anyone here has links ready at hand from unimpeachable sources to verify everything they claim.

Here ya go. All the back issues of The Atlantic.

Have at it.

ETA: I can't really blame you for not being able to find it. Atlantic's website is very difficult to navigate
