Can someone please put this abortion out of it's misery. All we have here is the original show with an ensemble cast, CGI and updated soundtrack, but the stories are exactly the same. And all the gratuitous bikini shots... sheesh. This show could have been so much more, they should have let Ron Moore do it.

What a clusterfuck episode. Forget his arsenal, KITT could have just run over the bad guy! They aren't even going to bother trying to make the turbo boost or 3D generator make sense.

This show is always kind of dumb but I just didn't think the fun element won out this time.

According to wiki, the hafnium thing is actually somewhat credible.

One thing that always bothers me is when the good guy helps the bad guy because the bad guy threatens to kill the hostage. I know that the "good guy" values innocent life but it seems like at some point you have to weight the consequences of helping the bad guy vs not helping. In this ep, Mike helps the terrorist get what is essentially a nuclear bomb that can kill millions all because he wanted to save one life. What's the point of saving one life if it means the bad guy kills thousands? Furthermore, the bad invariably cheats and does not release the hostage so the good guy ends up helping him for nothing. It really irritates me that the "good guy" always acts so dumb!

The point is that it gives you time to find a way to stop the bad guy from killing thousands after you've rescued the hostage. Or at least to distract him long enough to find the hostage and rescue them, and then take down the bad guy. This isn't a fictional conceit, it's how actual hostage situations are handled. You don't just cavalierly let innocent people get killed before exhausting all your options. You keep the hostage-taker engaged and talking and you use that time to pursue every possible avenue for stopping the bad guy from killing anyone.

On the hafnium bomb, yes, there is a grain of truth to the idea; there is research into using x-ray triggering to induce a release of energy from the synthetic isotope hafnium-178m2. In theory, you could get a release of nearly a third of a kiloton's worth of energy per gram. That's pretty surprising, both that it's possible and that a show like this would bother to research it rather than just making up some imaginary substance. Still, we don't know if it actually could work as a bomb, and it certainly wouldn't be as easy as just pointing an x-ray machine at a box of the stuff.

NBC is done with this show, the revamp they wanted to do was supposed to air out of NFL for a ratings boost but with no ADs and the same slot then KR is well and truly done.

oh well theres goes my popcorn TV.

It's like a freakin' Star Trek replicator! There's nothing it can't magically make! Hell, I think if Mike were hungry it could "generate" a ham sandwich! If he needed a kindey transplant, I'll bet it could even whip up a new kidney!

Not to mention how KITT can just magically conjure up new parts of himself instantly, when and *where* it's needed - like the darts, or the hazmat container (just the exact right sixe for the hafnium bock) in it's trunk, and the magic decontamination gizmo. (Or were we supposed to believe that container was *always* there, and that KITT just happened to have decon equipment installed in his truck, just in case?)

Hell, even the 3-D Object Generator seems to come and go - I guess it generates *itself*!?!?

And why have a new opening credits sequence (that is sucky compared to the one they already had) that spotlights the three characters that...

...they are just gonna kill off soon anyway?

Fun episode, and I really, really found Gunner annoying and threatening at the same time, which was fantastic. I also enjoyed seeing KITT and Mike working together more without Billy, Zoe or anyone else running out into the field to help him. They belong at the SCC and that's where they stayed.

The "Russian babes" served as a great visual joke. They were over the top on purpose, down to the guns they carried. As a visual gag (and eye candy) they worked really well.

Re: the hostage situation tactic, it wasn't just one innocent life at stake. It was said in the beginning that the ambassador was critical to negotiations. If that's the case, it wasn't just her life at stake, but the lives of those in her country. This was a matter of the "bigger picture", and at the time the SCC crew had no clue what Gunner wanted aside from money and a guy in jail. Each "mini-mission" escalated the stakes.

The B-story regarding the robot throwing a tantrum was interesting to me from a scifi fan and KR fan perspective. Clearly AI has existed in the KR-verse for quite some time now, despite it being kept secret. It stands to reason that while they may be less sophisticated (more "child like" if you will), the robots created by Graiman would have some emotional ability. I also found that this forshadows KARR since he too was an AI that went out of control, albeit in a much more violent way.

I was busy painting my living room with this blaring in the background. I rated it as "Good" only because the Turbo Boost was used (seems they're getting away from the stupid morphing into other Ford products) and the episode didn't seem too cheesy or forced. I didn't understand what the problem with "Hank" was. That was actually kind of a funny side story.

KARR will be interesting.

Hank was feeling left out because Graiman was spending more time in the SCC command center rather than his lab. This caused Hank to drop something seemingly by accident, but later we learned it was on purpose. He was "acting out", which I thought was interesting considering we're about to see the mother of all "acting out" AI's in KR.

It wasn't a horrible episode but if it were any other series this would have been a poor episode. I'm going to go with a good.

They should bring back Fantastic Journey next. 5 adventures 'sliding' through alternate dimensions on a desperate quest to return home. They can pair it with a Ron Moore remake of Otherworld...modern day family of 5, 'sliding' through an alternate Earth on a desperate quest to return home. This time, the Sterling parents were on the verge of divorce, teen angst between (now) step siblings Trace and Gina! Youngster Smith Sterling carries a deep, dark secret! Cmder Kroll is tormented by a demon in a red dress! Yay, originality!.
And for mid season, an updated Sliders, bringing Jerry O'Connell back! :techman:
