John Travolta and Kelly Preston's son died on Friday, family lawyer Michael Ossi has confirmed.

Ossi told TMZ that Jett Travolta, 16, suffered a seizure at the family vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died on the scene. Access Hollywood, meanwhile, originally reported that Jett died in a "hotel accident" after falling and hitting his head on a bathtub.

In the past there have been reports that Jett was autistic, but Travolta always denied it, saying instead that his son suffered from Kawasaki Syndrome, a disease characterized by high fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes. Travolta follows Scientology, which does not recognize autism.

Travolta and Preston also have a daughter, Ella Bleu, age 8.

Developing....

Terrible news. I hope this wasn't caused by JT's weird medical stance.

ETA: I saw this on yahoo a few minutes ago also.

Man, that's tragic. :( I hope they weren't withholding any vital treatment because of their religion....

He is safe in the bosom of Xenu, away from the volcanos and... sigh.

Scientologists. I swear to God. Sigh.

It's pretty impossible but it'd be delightful if simple antidepressants could've saved the kid's life.

^ Antidepressants? Where are you getting that from?

From what I've read, it sounds like he had a seizure and hit his head fatally on the bathtub, or something like that. Awful. :(

Scientologists don't believe in antidepressants.

My "point" was it would've been a "delightful" irony if the child died and their death could've been prevented if they were on antidepressants.

Granted, such a thing isn't likely possible but, I dunno, I guess Scientologits really tick me off.

Holdfast, it's the "word I meant to use" in a "being extraordinarily" "for lack of a better word" kind of way.

For real, though, it is sad the kid died, it is sad he died so young and my heart goes out to John and his family.

Scientologists just baffle me.

I sincerely hoped you meant "ironic" rather than "delightful".

I'm delighted you've clarifed in accordance with my hopes.

Sad news indeed. The whole family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Daughter says the rumors are that Jett was autistic.
Whatever the cause, no family should have to go through this.

Very sad indeed! My sympathies and condolences to the Travolta family...

I just saw "Bolt". Travolta does the voice for Bolt...good film, BTW!

He had Kawasaki Syndrome, apparently...it's rare to see it in a child over the age of 8, but not unheard of.
