Paterson Joseph - black actor - tipped as Tennant's replacement

I have faith in Moffat. Whoever he casts will be awesome, guaranteed.

Well. You never know. Might turn out that he's awful at running the show and much better at writing the annual one-off. ;)

No, I'm sure Moffat will be wonderful.

(And I'm equally sure that a significant portion of the fanbase that's been worshipping at his feet since "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" will turn on him, and permanently, the day he makes one sub-par episode.)

Well, naturally. That's fandom for you.

Oh I'm already sharpening my pitchfork in anticipation.

But seriously, perhaps "awesome guaranteed" is a bit, er, extreme of me. Maybe it will suffice to say I'll be extremely surprised if he doesn't cast a great Doc 11.

I'm sure he will, actually. I just get amused -- it seems like fandoms always like to anoint a messiah and then tear them down afterwords.

For some it won't even be his first (inevitable) sub-par episode, it'll be the first ep he does that isn't "a bit like Blink".

Outpost Gallifrey will go into meltdown if he ever puts out anything as bad as Fear Her.

Off topic, I heart RTD.

the British do have a habit of putting people on pedastals and then delight in knocking them off... i direct your attention to:

David Beckham
Sven Goran Eriksson
Wayne Rooney

for three...

it'll be Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton and Fabio Capello soon...

In fairness I think especially with Sven we kinda put him back up there again once we realised he hadn't actually been a bad manager. But yeah we do do this.

As for Moffat, my approach will be the same as it's ever been for him (and the same as with RTD) if he writes a good episode I'll laud him but if he write a sub par one I'll pick him up on it, and in fact I have. I loved the first two parter but am one of only three people in the world who doesn't think TGITFP is brilliant, loved Blink and Silence in the Library but was dissapointed with Forest of the Dead.

{Shrugs} I'll just deal with each Moffat story on a story by story basis, but even when he's poor (much like RTD) his stories are watchable. He's going to be writing 4 or 5 eps a series now, the quality can't help but dip at points.

I have to say, I'm totally in agreement. And in defiance of my inner raging fanboy, even the episodes of Who I would claim to "hate" online are still watchable, and at least mildly entertaining on some base level.

Apart from Fear Her. I genuinely can't sit through even the first 15 minutes.

Still, only one genuinely unwatchable episode out of... 51 eps? Obviously means it's a show that I'm pretty damn compatible with. My favourite TV show of all time, Babylon 5, has a greater number of shitty episodes.

Edit: Ok, that's only tenuously related to what you said but, um, yeah. Something.

^ I have to go past the estate Fear Her was filmed on every single day to get to university. It sickens me to the core every time that THAT episode happened there.

Okay Sci, is this the part where I rail on you about disrespecting Moffat, in the same vein that you blow a gasket when someone gripes about RTD?

Radio 1 this morning

Did I here them say on the Chris Moyles show the new Doctor was going to be announced by the BBC today?

Or was I still half asleep?

Re: Radio 1 this morning

^I've been hearing that for the last few days so it seems that it may happen today.

its the first time ive heard that said from anyone connected to the BBC

I read it after being linked to the Sun website. Which also claims this week that Christopher Nolan has cast Eddie Murphy as the Riddler.

Fuck off The Sun.

I suspect that might be someone guessing that the new Doctor would be announced at this morning's press screening for the Christmas Special. It wasn't.

Re: Radio 1 this morning

It took me a while to place him in Season One - should have read through the thread before going to Google.

Seems like a good choice. Hopefully more of an Eccleston than a Tennant (and I do like David Tennant in the part).

Re: Radio 1 this morning

I think you're right y'know. He'd be cooler, more calculating. He wouldn't go around hugging people in a demented stupor but he'd still have a sense of fun. Dare I say it, on some level, he'd be a blend of both Tennant and Eccles?

While bringing so much more of himself into the char too of course. Sure, i'm just speculating, but I swear he'd make a great Doc 11 and I hope he's geninely the one.
