NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

When OU beats USU this weekend they will pass Texas and Play Florida who beat Alabama in the SEC Championship game in the National Championship Game!

You heard it here first!

Anybody got a not so fast my friend?

Yeah.

Not so fast ... Oklahoma isn't playing Utah State this weekend.

Holy smokes! What a turnaround in the Ga Tech / Georgia game!

Georgia has a 28-12 lead at halftime .... and Tech comes back with a 26 point 3rd quarter! One back in particular rushed for 13 carries and 213 yards, and two TDs. One was a 62 yarder in that 3rd qtr, then he has a 54 yarder in the 4th qtr! That's an excellent stroy in the season Ga Tech has had.

Paul Johnson has done an excellent job in his first year there. I gotta hand it to him. Watching that game, it was hard to remember that Georgia was ranked #1 at one point this season.

I know... but frankly Georgia was a very understandable pick to rank that high at the beginning of the season. But it takes nothing away from what Johnson has done there at Ga Tech. It was his fist year there, which makes me wonder what the difference was between that and Rodriguez' results at Michigan. Why the disparity?

Johnson already had most of the right athletes on hand to implement his system. Rodriquez did not. It's going to take Michigan a couple of years to stock the right personnel.

So Johnson runs a "spread offense" similar to what Rodriuez ran at West Virginia? Well, I can understand Johnson having better results if he already had that type of personnel. Thing is I have a hard time imagining personnel being THAT different between Michigan and Ga Tech considering Michigan's longstanding history. I have to wonder if Rodriguez couldn't have done a better job with these players he inherited. Maybe he was so focused on his system getting installed that he couldn't see a way to play with players not built to run that system.

I think it's your last primarily. He probably has some players who fit well into a spread offense, but to make it work you need personnel on offense who can play in space and I don't think Michigan had a whole lot of those on hand when Rodriquez took over. I watched Oregon make the switch a few years ago and it was painful. Kellen Clemens was a classic drop-back passer and never looked comfortable (or particularly productive) in the offense.

It really takes a good running QB (like Pryor for example), a stable of backs and bunches of good WR's to make it work right. Plus linemen with good speed, which is much more important than size in the spread.

Very true. My point though is that if Rodriguez wasn't so much a "system coach" as he seems to be, maybe things would have been better this year, at least a little. Then again, you can say if this is the way they're going to go... might as well start biting the bullet now and work hard. I'm also hearing that a great many of those older players never really "bought into" the Rodriguez system and are possibly more to blame. :shrugs: I don't know.

Incidentally, Baylor is beating Texas tech 28-14 in the second half, and Crabtree is out with an injury. If Baylor wins, doesn't that give Texas the Big 12 South title?

It's a final, TU 35, Baylor 28. MUC tougher game than it should have been. Is there any word about Crabtree's injury?

Florida is beating up Florida St. VERY convincingly. Score 45-15. The total yardage is something on the order of 2-1. And a large amount of this has been wit Harvin out. No word about the seriousness of the injury.

Your defense contains OU's juggernaut offense beautifully, so you decide to throw an easy pick to give it to them on the 20 yard line. Smooth move, ZR. Really smooth. :scream:

7-3 Oklahoma. 1st quarter is ticking away and OU's offense isn't scoring at will so far. Of course their kicker nails a perfect punt afterwards, but I'll take what I can get. :bolian: If not for that stupid INT Robinson threw we'd be up a score. Just like with Texas, save for one fumble that gave the Longhorns an extra score, darnit. :scream: Come on O-State. You're getting pressure on the mighty Bradford. That's more than anyone else has done.

For the USC fans here, the Ducks are winning 20-10 with halftime approaching.

That's great news for fnas of the real OSU as well.

Hey... now it's 37 - 10 Ducks over the Beav! Does Jacquizz make thta much of a difference?

And gotta love how USC and ND traded interceptions within the first series of downs on their initial possessions.

All hail the true midget running back, Kendall Hunter. :p Touchdown Oklahoma State. Kendall is not five feet nine. He may be listed as that, but that's BS. He's shorter than that. My goodness but he's a mighty mite.

I don't know. He may be as small as Rodgers but he sure doesn't seem any small-er. I'd be tempted to take either back when building a team. The opponent's defensive line can't see either of them coming.

And back come the Sooners with a TD. Folks... this is going to be a fun, fun, FUN game!!!

Son of a bitch. :klingon: Way to lose momentum there, defense. You should have had OU pinned deep in their own territory but you let them off the hook on a long third down, then Bradford heated up. You need to smother them after your offense scores. Arrrrrrrrrrrghhh....
