There really is some amazing sailing off the coast of France. The Bay of Biscay can have a bit of wind now and again...

Pretty close, yes. "Hello hello sailor, Sailor sails the waves"
Come to think of it, in this context "ohé" might be better translated as "ahoy". It just sounds less good in a song.

I agree his stance and outfit are way cooler in the former pic... if only the angle, zoom, and lighting were slightly adjusted, you would then get a better sense of the shape of the sail and boat as well... still it's a lovely photo, and I don't want to take away from that. The photographer would probably have to be on another boat to get all that in frame.

MacArthur isn't really the best comparison. A better one would be Robin Lee Graham, who left on his solo circumnavigation at age 16 on the Dove.
