Is William T. Riker the most well-known Alaskan since Gov. Sarah Palin

As we all know, William T. Riker derives inspiration from history in moments of crises such as when researching Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew's final voyage aboard the NX-01 in the ENT finale "These Are the Voyages."

As far as we all know within the confines of the Star Trek universe, Federation ambassador Kyle Riker and his reknowned son Will (The executive officer of the Federation flagship for 15 years, and its captain during the Borg crisis.) may perhaps be one of the most recognized father-son duo to come out of North America since the days of George H.W. Bush and his son George W.

Could it be that since Will opened himself up to gain inspiration from Archer in dealing with his divided loyalties between Admiral Eric Pressman and Captain Jean-Luc Picard in "The Pegasus," could he perhaps drew similar inspiration from a certain political figure in Earth's history over the decision whether to choose between Data (super computer), Worf (tactical experience), and Shelby (Borg knowledge) as his executive officer during the Borg crisis in "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II?"

Since it is not beneath Will to gain insights from the actions of historical figures, and having grown up in Alaska and since being well-versed in history and knowing full well that Gov Sarah Palin on September 1st, 2008 became the first person to be the most prominent Alaskan outside of North America in Alaskan history, maybe perhaps knowing this fact -- the fact that Palin herself went against her ticket partner John McCain when it came to certain issues in a time in her campaign when she and McCain were up against insurmountable odds and knew full well that they had to make desperate measures to win an election they knew full well ahead of time that they had an insurmountable task of winning (eventhough, losing! :p) -- perhaps knowing that Will himself was also faced with a formidable task of defeating the Borg which he knew was more insurmountable than McCain being able to defeat the favored Barack Obama in the general election -- Will decided to choose a "Sarah Palin-type" to be his executive officer to do "the dirty work" that he himself may not even have thought of or even be inclined to do?

Fact is stranger than fiction, and if such concepts as the Q, the ant-time anomaly, the Nexus, the Briar Patch, and a seasoned Starfleet commander going into a holodeck program to gain insights from a historical figure in deciding whether to reveal classified knowledge of phased-cloak device in front of his ship's Romulan captor are even remotely conceivable, it is not unreasonable to assume that within the realm of infinite possibilities that Will -- who even looked for guidance in an Archer holodeck program -- may have infact derived inspiration from the historical files of Sarah Palin during a time of major crisis in appointing Shelby as his executive officer so that they could "take the gloves off" and face the Borg onslaught in non-traditionally Federation "think outside of the box" terms?

I thought he was from Canada.

Ensign Sam Lavelle himself made that same mistake when he tried to get close to his commanding officer in the episode "Lower Decks" and realized that Will was infact born and raised in Alaska.

The only thing that Sarah Palin will be known for after losing the Vice-Presidency is the inevitable Playboy spread.

Of course, Will Riker owns this issue (hey, it's a collectors' item).

Hey, anything's possible! I personally don't think Riker would emulate Palin, but if he knew of her in the 24th century, he'd learn the lesson McCain wishes he knew before -- never pick a running mate you barely know to blunt an opponent's perceived weakness among white women voters.

I'm also sure there are more admirable figures in Alaska and U.S. history that Riker would be aware of. We don't know how long Riker's family was in Alaska, for example -- we know his family probably originated in the lower 48, as one of his ancestors fought in the Civil War.

Palin was born in Idaho and moved to Alaska as an infant. So she's not a "native" Alaskan.

When interviewed on television 2 months ago, the reason Senator Barack Obama gave for choosing Senator Joe Biden as his runningmate is because he wanted someone who not only is experienced and capable to lead if he had to take over the highest office, but he also wanted someone:

at times to advise him.
at times to challenge him.
at times to question him.
at times to disagree with him.

Now, something about that "sounds very familiar." ;)

Whats his stance on Away Teams?

The question would seem to indicate Palin was a famous Alaskan before Riker.

Re: Is William T. Riker the most well-known Alaskan since Gov. Sarah P

can Riker see Romulus from his house, that's the question--

Now, I'm waiting for the Playboy spread. Maybe we can have Russia in the background.

Man...

I am sure going to miss Tina Fey on "Saturday Night Live." :guffaw:

Maybe not. There were pundits speculating on Palin's positioning herself for 2012.

Really.

I mean, if I were a Republican, I would be looking for the nearest air lock I could throw her out of.

Sarah Palin was overheard joking to her friends at an Alaskan restaurant "So, sambo beat the bitch!" last summer in regards to Barack Obama's primary win over Hillary Clinton, but yet she didn't even know that Africa was a continent (Palin thought it was a country) until someone pointed this out to her last month.

Seriously, at the age of 44 a woman who is a governor of one of America's 50 states cannot tell the difference whether or not Africa is a continent or a country deeply disturbs me.

Ladies and gentleman, Ms. Sarah Palin -- the poster girl for America's failing educational system!
