Good so far, but a little bit of a recycled X-files plot..

I love Walter though

I missed the premiere, so this is the first episode I've seen. Walter is a hit! "Do I need to keep him alive?", playing accordion with the stack of Post-It notes,.... he's good.

What is the best online resource for this show, so I can sort of catch up?

I voted above average...this show is off to a great start...I like all the characters (LOVE Walter!) and the plots have some good twists, far away enough from the x-files (though, I think, inspired by) and LOST. Abrams seems to be on a roll

Tonight's was the first episode of Fringe i watched. Even though I didnt see the first two episodes, i really didnt feel lost. I like the characters, especially walter. I'll have to hit up Fox.com to catch the first two episodes.

I'm not sure about the show yet ... but this was entertaining. I'm curious about the obvious long-term arc, though. Are we watching an even quirkier version of "The X-Files"?

Good ep. Waler is the BEST! Love his wit and his blase way of going about things.

He has some interesting quirkiness and an obsession with his test subjects ... to the point of forgetting they're human. Can anyone give me more of a background on Walter's story?

Stern but likable FBI Boss: "Pattern!"

Our Heroine: "You mean these attacks?"

Stern but Likable FBI Boss: "No, my tie...what do think of the pattern?"

Here's the pattern: Horrible murders, which happen to be in the Boston area, some connection turns up, lots of junk science exposition delivered by looney doctor, suspect dies.

How many corrupt government agents are there? I mean, damn.

So "average", since this is apparently the show's formula.

I thought this episode was interesting and it kept the arc moving in interesting ways. I give it an Above Average.

Walter was in a mental institution for 17 years when judged incompetent to stand trial on manslaughter charges from some of his `tests`. The only person who could visit him was his son, who didn`t. Enter FBI agents Olivia and John, who are lovers. While investigating a freak airplane disaster where all died mysteriously, John is hurt by the chemicals that killed the airplane passengers. In order to help him, Olivia looks up Walter via his son, who she blackmails to get access to Walter. She brings him to his old lab in the basement of Harvard University to cure John, which he does. John then turns out to be a spy, and it is him that is supposed dead, but was hooked up to the machines in the end of tonight`s ep.

(To echo what I said in another thread...)

I believe this would have been better served had it been called "Deus Ex Machina." It is invariably following the pattern of a problem arising, and Walter inexplicably having an invention lying around to solve said problem.

Unless they deviate from "the pattern," the show will become trite in it's plot contrivances. I want to like this, truly, but the lackluster acting and storytelling is making it quite difficult.
