Dragonball new pictures including piccolo

What I find far more problematic, is Goku not having a tail.

This movie seems to portray a young adult Goku. Kami/God took off Goku's tail before his training, 3 years before the championship (vs Piccolo/Ma Junior). He was adult, then.

goku seems to be set as in his mid teens in this instead of what? 10? in the beginning of dragonball, i'll let that pass cause i hate child actors

That was AFTER his grandfather died, and AFTER he saw his transformation against Emperor Pilaf, and AFTER he trained with Muten Roshi, and AFTER he trained with the god cat, what's the senzu bean growing cat's name again? Dang it. AFTER he beat the Red Ribbon army, and AFTER he beat King Piccolo.

In this movie, his grandfather is still alive, and he still has to meet Muten Roshi. Which means no way can have been with the god cat. He still has to fight King Piccolo as well, thus can't yet have met the god of the Earth. This is the FIRST movie, essentially the FIRST saga, mixed in somewhat with the King Piccolo saga. In other words, whatever Goku's age is, he should still have a tail.

Also, he goes school, to high school, in a CAR. Does this in anyway resemble Dragon Ball? Hence my fear, the entire site, what's said about Goku in school and such, it all seems Goku is simply a human teen. Which is so very, very wrong.

Ooooh this one is easy! It's almost my first name ;)
Master Korin/Karin (depending on where you stand on the globe)

Well what do you expect? The universal rule has always been the book is better than the movie. The book in this case being the manga, which was adapted into an anime and this live action movie is a further derivative of that. So in other words it's got twice the suck-idge potential. ;)

actually the anime turned out better thaan the manga, it continued past the manga and Toryama wrote it (i bet he's freaking spinning at the news of this movie)

I hope he at least gets royalties. I think I read somewhere that Japanese copyright law is different from ours in that area though.

Never read the manga myself I don't read much manga at all actually. I'm only following 7 series (Black Lagoon, Bleach, Claymore, Gunslinger Girl, Hellsing, Suzuka, and Tsukihime) currently.

movie execs-we added one blue steak, happy now? go away
She looks fine, but all that black leather is almost laughable. 'So, how do you want to do her outfit?' 'I dunno, the kids like that black leather stuff right?' 'Oh yeah, lets just head down to Wilson's and call it a day.'

does Toryama get royalties from Funimation?

It could be totally incorrect but the way I understand their copyright policy for imported shows, the royalties from Funimation's release of it here go to the copyright holder of the anime series, in this case Toei Animation not the creator of the story. Toriyama only has rights to his manga, which is how Toei was able to make Dragonball GT without his involvement or consent I imagine. Since this live action movie is being made by us, who have a policy for royalties and the fact that it's a completely new adaptation it's highly likely he could get a cut if he wanted but I'd talk to a legal expert if you really wanted to know since I can't say anything for certain.

Uh, sorry, but Toriyama gets royalties for the anime from Toei. And Dragonball GT was NOT done without his consent. They asked him whether they were allowed to make it and he said yes. In fact, he made character concepts for Dragonball GT. Pan is his creation for Toei to run with. SSJ4 is his creation - he made several and Toei picked the one you see on screen.

So no, Toriyama own's the copyright for Dragon Ball and all derivatives, and he gets a cut. I wonder if Toei even gets a single dime from the movie. Now the manga publishing company that Toriyama was affiliated with when he did Dragon Ball though, they undoubtedly get a piece of the pie, as since he worked there they partially own it.

While that's not how I would have done Piccolo, it still seems cool. In the manga (and that one special) Bulma had purple hair (hence why Trunks's hair is that color). But its fine if they wanted to do it this way. I hope all the actors are considering the gravity of the characters they are portraying. I know I'd play in the movie for free of course. They're even being paid money! I'm not talking about their acting skills which will be fine. I just mean they should show reverence toward their incredible position.

I'm sure they probably just think of it as a silly kid show and are just doing it for the check. Sort of like doing He-man.
