Worst Song Ever Written

"Gloria" by Laura Branigan.
Nah. At the time it was favorably compared to Donna Summer's work.

It actually took THREE PEOPLE to write that one.
Big deal. Is that the world record for multiple songwriters on one composition?

No. But it is for a basically three-note song that modulates.

(Actually, I believe writing credit for songs is the same as scripts -- five names maximum. Period.)

The 1970's were a Golden Age for novelty singles, but I think they belong in a category separate from "Worst Songs." Records like "Telephone Man" and "Disco Duck" are supposed to make people chuckle. That's a little different from sincere but wretched works like "You're Having My Baby."
I see your point, and I do enjoy novelty songs, but that one sets my teeth on edge.

"Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward was another that I hated taking requests for...

^AIR, the Tampa Bay Bucs had a player named Ricky Bell at the time; that became his theme song.

I can't stand that song from the end of Donnie Darko.

And I think it's kinda funny
I think it's kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had:eek::wtf:

The song ('Mad World') is actually quite decent, but I much prefer the original Tears For Fears version to the Gary Jules cover. I'm not sure whether the 5 names rule for song writing applies everywhere Ted - I've got a fair few albums in my collection with six or seven names credited for some songs (and that's from checking the credits on the album artwork).

Looks like Misfit Toy and I have similar opinions in this thread. The first time I listened to My Humps I thought, "I haven't heard anything that stupid since Telephone Man!"

My humps!
My humps!
My humps!

Oh, it gets a lot worse than "Surfin' Bird". That one still makes it under the "so dumb, it's kind of fun" exemption.

-"hey ya!" by Outkast
-"I got my mind set on you" by George Harrison
-"Revolution 9" by the Beatles
-"You know my name(look up the number)" by the Beatles

that song reminds me of me having an autistic spectrum disorder trying to understand stuff in school and in life and later the realization that what I think and what I do is wrong in some way.

Here's another one:

the one that goes, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

okay so, settle then?

I never even thought of Revolution 9 - that is a fucking awful song.

But The Simpsons got a great joke out of it, so I'll, ahem, let it be.

I wouldn't even consider "Revolution 9" a "song"...more like a classical-style piece composed of various sound sources. Technically, a song has to be sung.
