Bringing back Data

spocksbrain

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I rewatched Nemesis for the umpteenth time last night (an "umpteen" is defined as ten to the many) and, for some reason, I never noticed before: they make a big deal out of defining thaleron radiation as something that only destroys organic matter. In other words, it would destroy people, but not machines ... more to the point, not androids. So, that wouldn't have killed Data. What would have done him in would be the explosion of the Scimitar, except that you clearly see large chunks of debris being thrown off. So, Data's head could easily be floating around in that nebula or rift or whatever it was. B-4 has a perfect body but a malfunctioning brain, Data's head could be retrieved and attached to B-4's body ... and there you go. I don't know why I never noticed any of that in previous viewings of the movie.

Oh good God no.

Besides they already negated his death B4.

Death really means nothing in sci-fi because the fans won't allow it.

B4s Body is rubbish compared to Data's ... it wouldnt work..

Data's body does incorporate (unspecified) organic components, per dialogue in "The Naked Now"; that's how he was able to catch the mutated Psi 2000 virus.

If they really insisted on bringing back Data, the best way would be to have the whole screen get all blurry, Picard wakes up in a cold sweat, and it turns out that everything after the opening credits of Nemesis was just a bad dream.

Dear Gods, no... Leave him DEAD.

He was a boring, knock-off of Spock character from the word 'Go'... That would be one of the few redeeming features of watching NEM for me -- watching him go up in smithereens.

Cheers,

I woke up one morning hoping it was all just a nightmare, but no, I really did pay good money to see that in the theater. Data's death is just another reason to pretend that movie doesn't exist.

Well, since all of Data's memories and experiences are already in B4, Maddux from "Measure of a Man" could merely have a breakthrough and build Data a new brain, and even a new body (ie, new actor).

The writers can eat their cake and have it too!!!

No, that was Dallas... it wasn't a dream. It was a holodeck sequence. That's the ENT way to explain it. :vulcan:

There maybe a way to bring him back. Apparently according a media repoert I read, in the new movie there is going to be an allternative timeline in the past which may re-write all history. Maybe in some way they can bring data back. Well I guess I'm just clutching at straws but I really hope they will.:(

Dear Gods, no... Leave him DEAD.

Considering that no new TNG films or TV is likely, you get your wish.

That said however, I DO wish they'd bring him back in the novels, whch, so far, they haven't. If there was one thing more idiotic that the loss of the Enterprise-D, it was the death of Data.

Im not an absolutely rabid TNG fan, by any means, but Data as played by Brent Spiner was absolutely the best thing about the show, imo, brilliantly acted and scripted always.

I also fail to see why so much negativity surrounds NEMESIS, a terrific Trek film, again imo.

Data's head gets blown off his body during the explosion.

It is found in a search of the debris, maybe by a scavenger.

It gets re-activated.

Moral Dilemma: de-activate B-4 to use his body?

Solution: B-4 begins to crash and deteriorate. Dies. Data gets his body.

Data was standing next to fhe weapon(I don't know what it was called!)when it exploded, he was vaporized in an instant.
Sorry!

So ... set up a moral dilemma and then skip out on it thanks to a deus ex machina solution where nobody has to make a decision that costs anything, though they may feel a little sad about it?

^ Sounds like most of New Trek in general, I fear... :(

(Well, except for MAYBE DS9, I'll grant them a little leeway.)

Cheers,

Well, even if Data wasn't affected by that kind of radiation, a good explosion can kill just about anybody save for a re-occuring villian.

Data was a good character but waaaay too focused on in the films. Leave him dead!
