You read it wrong and quoted it wrong. The line reads:

"...one of the few ships in the fleet able to mount even a moderate defense against the Borg."

Considering that Starfleet has thousands of ships, "few" is a relative term. Basically, we'd be talking about the heavier ship classes (e.g., Sovereign and Nebula, etc.), and the Defiant-class ships, as opposed to lighter classes, research ships, medical ships, etc.

Hell dude you write the damn things I'm sure you can work that in somehow. I got lots of ideas if you need them. Maybe the crew finds the US Olympic beach volleyball team trapped in some kind of time distortion thing? This would work better as a tv episode probably.

EDIT: @ David Mack: Oh that makes sense. Around the time of First Contact/Dominion War it seems like Star Fleet had a lot of battle-ready ship types: Akira, Steamrunner, etc. It sounds like Star Fleet was moving back to a more peaceful science-oriented role before the events of Destiny.

Sorry to spoil the negative vibe then but I've been planning on getting the trilogy since I saw a blurb of it here and have no intention of missing it.

    Actually, it's a known practice:

To make up for decades of their males-only policies, the Navy has christened a frigate to be crewed entirely by women, the HMS Tribadism.

    Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

"Lead ship," huh? Thanks, that's a useful bit of terminology. I've occasionally wondered what term to use for that, or at least felt the absence of a good one.

Just read the excerpt from Gods Of Night. Fantastic!

Nice to see Sam Bowers as a First Officer. Also can't wait to read the DS9-RL to see how Ezri decides to transfer off DS9.

Since the current timeframe of the DS9R is roughly four years pre-Destiny, I don't think you can expect to see that happening anytime soon.

A mock up cover from Amazon UK. They took the original mock cover down and have put this version up - why can't they just put up the actual cover!

    1. Because they're idiots

    2. They haven't got permission yet.

    I'm going with option 1.

I'd never noticed this before, but in that SotL image (May of 2007) both runabouts have the Rio Grande's registry and the Type 8 shutle has Voyager's.

Or 3) S&S hasn't made the correct cover available to them.

Given S&S's proven incompetency providing material in a timely manner in other areas, I'm going with #3.

I just got the new StarTrek Magazine and read the new Destiny Excerpt.Takes place on Titan and Palzar finds a large mysterious energy reading in space and alerts Rager about it. That the readings are causing problem with ship sytems. After reading the previous Destiny excerpt with Dax exploring the Columbia mystery in the Gamma Quadrant. I can't wait to read this series to see how the mystery unravels about what Happened to Captain Hernandez and her crew and the borg threat.

I noticed that they had changed from one alternate cover to a different one. Where do they get them from?

That's pretty cool. I haven't read Kobayashi Maru yet so I don't know if that's a spoiler in that excerpt or not about new Romulan Tactics. I actually like the Fake cover amazon UK put up for Gods of Night, it's certainly eyecatching, I love that image. BTW, all the reviews for Kobayashi Maru on Amazon.com are actually TGTMD reviews.

Will anyone from TOS be popping up in Destiny?
