Re: Favortie found or made MOTIVATIONAL rip-off poster!!!

I'm pretty sure someone already posted the Skittles one either here or in the threadbombs topic. Put it in a link marked NSFW and it should be fine, though borderline.

This one is the same idea, although without the topless. Kinda ruins it, really.
That is the one I thought of when I read it. I thought the poster just was confused about the topless part.

So, an astronaut burning up in the atmosphere saying some weird thing about commies and monkeys is funny!!!?!????!?!??

Why don't I get this?

Am I lacking? -Is there some show that never made it to mainland Europe I haven't watched? - Is there some ancient cultural meme I've missed?

What is it? -why is that funny?

Pleeze tell me!

Re: Favortie found or made MOTIVATIONAL rip-off poster!!!

You know the usual rule with jokes - if you have to explain them to someone, they're not going to find it funny.

But to answer the question - the Fantastic Four are pretty damn awesome anyway, throw in super-apes & communists & a race-against-time journey to the moon, add it the sheer cheese factor of the grandiose declaration... and well, yeah, I lol'ed.

He's not an astronaut, he's a superhero whose power is setting himself on fire.

He's Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four, one of the world's most famous and popular superhero teams that arguably changed comic books forever.

Yeah, I know, and I don't, but, maybe next time when the same meme is in play I might understand! (and I might even understand 'the funny')
My first thought was something like this: there are some group known as the fantastic four, three of them are monkeys and one of them is left over from the USSR... Then I noticed your capitalization and googled those words -and found a rather extensive article on wikipediA… I might get it the next time (if it isn't that in-universe though).

The point, I think, is that I as a kid found 'Superman' to be "Awesome" -but that is as far into the universes of "superheroes" as I have ever been

Apparently I am missing something. - But thanx for giving me something that is googleable!!! -really helped :)

^There's a reason why their own title is called "The World's Greatest Comics Magazine".

Don't feel bad. I didn't get it originally either.

Of course I'm a chick and the only comic books I ever liked were Archie and Betty ones...

Shait! -More stuff to google!

It's a cultural thing; I'm from a time where the only thing, US-Americans call 'comics', in Europe was 'Superman' - We had Asterix, Tintin and that sort of stuff…
To this day the only US-American 'comics' I have in my collection is stuff like Spirit and The Furry Freak Brothers. What I fell in love with is stuff like Hugo Pratt's Corto Maltese, Jean-Claude Mézières' Valérian (I am into SciFi!) and a lot of other French/Belgian stuff like whatever Enki Bilal, Jean Giraud (which is where we might find our first common ground), Comès, Luc & François Schuiten made back in those days.

I never liked to read about superheroes and "good vs. evil" and fighting. That always bored me. I like comedy.

Exactly! The sheer stupidity of the premise is the whole point. That particular image is from the early 60's - when such daftness was all over Marvel comics - Stan Lee, I thank you, sir!

This is also true. :D

It could be argued, however, that ALL stories are about 'good v/s evil.

To get back to the topic of the thread though:

Most "mindfuck" posters I've seen are of the lazy kind (where there is no mindfuck going on) but this one isn't:

Mindfuck-censored.jpg

I hadda censor it for posting on the Trek BBS, so it might not be as big a mindfuck as it was before I did my stuff to it…

Re: Favortie found or made MOTIVATIONAL rip-off poster!!!

Yeah, I totally don't get the mindfuck..

re: ManOnTheWave..

Ohhhh... I did notice the Unix but I guess I'm just too dense to make the connection.
