Okay, Clifton Collins has mentioned in an interview that his time in the makeup chair to become a Romulan ranged from two-and-a-half to four hours.

Trekmovie.com reports on his remarks here, then adds this:

TrekMovie has confirmed that all the Romulans (including Collins) have tattoos and that that tattoos vary from character to character. Hence the need for all that make-up chair time for Collins.

That's gonna be a very different look.

Cool. Again, I assume that these are renegade Romulans so as long as they look cool they could look like anything for all it matters to consistency. I'm curious as to whether or not we get to see representatives of mainstream Romulan society or government.

I really have to say, giving the Romulans tattoos is one of the most imaginative make-up decisions I have seen in Trek in a long while. That's a creative choice I didn't see coming and which really surprised me. And that's a good thing! They are very stylish.

While TrekMovie has confirmed that, Gene Roddenberry and all of Star Trek history have confirmed that Romulans look cool.

These Romulans are anything but... they are nothing more than bad Vin Diesel rejects.

Bolianadmiral's complaint is after all based on not having seen them in action so his characterization of them as "Vin Diesel" rejects is sort of worthless. But well we're Trek fans so you know we must reject change or anything different. It goes with the territory. You'd also of thunk he'd go for the more obvious "Darth Maul" comparison as a complaint that at least would be more fitting.

while I was never a fan of the look of the TNG era Romulans, one of them did become a star.
