Voyager- The Relaunch

Vorik

Ensign
Red Shirt
So this is probably supposed to go in Trek Literature but I wanted to let everyone know if you haven't gotten the Voyager relaunch books they are awesome.
The Voyager Relaunch books take place right after endgame and truly are great IMO.
A must have for any voyager fan, they are hard to get a hold of at stores and such i had to get mine off of Amazon.com
but anyway I'm almost done with the second one, and very pleased
the first one is
Homecoming by Christie Golden
the second is
The Further Shore, same author

just wanted to let everyone know if you didnt all ready :)

Well, a couple of points-
1) Yes, it should be in Trek Lit.
2) Hate to say it, but the majority opinion, last time I checked, doesn't agree with your own. I haven't read the books myself, but after seeing what other people had to say about them I'm not strongly motivated to either.

Janeway should have thumped Mark and dragged him back to her cave to make babies. Befriending the wife? That's not the Janeway way. Deletion is what that old crow is all about.

I've got the second duology but hated the first book of the first duology so never picked up the second part of the first duology. Chakotays crew had some interesting characters.

Vorik, don't worry; you have a lot of company. The Golden books are good sellers and went into reprints.

**Spoilers***

The Borg Virus, what to do with the technology, the crew adapting, the Holo Rebellion, all good, I hated the starfleet intelligence stuff tho, and the libby character, just like on tv, bores me.

Anyone read past the first two? Are the ones with Chacotay in command any good? I'm keen on the idea of Paris as XO

Defcon, yes, I had heard something like that; but I was referring to the two the OP mentioned.

Honestly, they're among the worst Trek books I've ever read. I can't think of anything I liked about them, and I have no interest in ever reading another book by that particular author. To each their own, though. :bolian:

JFYI The Voyager-Relaunch isn't Golden exclusive anymore, the next two books will be written by Kirsten Beyer.
That's good to know, and IMO a long overdue move. I'll have to check them out.

"Homecoming" was a great story by Christie Golden. She did a nice job resolving the characters and putting together a story, but the actual writing itself wasn't that good-- and the following novel was almost unreadable.

I much prefer the Ds9 relaunch, book-wise. I'm still engrossed!

I have those two, and I've tried twice to read them; no luck so far. I read some of her earlier books and can sum up my reaction with a big roll eye. I was heartened to hear they were changing authors.

I think i can say that the reason i enjoyed it so much is that even though i can agree with some of the 'difficulty to read' points here and there
I enjoyed being able to continue in a story with the charectars after Endgame.
Endgame was such a tremendous STOP!!!!! point really.

One of my (many) problems with the author in question is the characterisations - or, rather, the lack thereof. The people in her books have the same names as the characters I watched for seven years, but otherwise they may as well be completely different people. On that basis alone I dislike the books. But again, to each their own.

Danny, the best VOY books IMO are the Jeri Taylor ones, written at the beginning of the series.

The Relaunch books are..........sort of OK but not exactly what I want.

There are too many of the original characters missing and I find it a bit depressing to read about the crew on the ship while Janeway, Kes, Neelix, The Doctor and Tuvok are missing.

The magic isn't there anymore. :(

I agree with Lynx The relaunch is ok. The second two books are better then the first two. I do like Chakotay in command.

I mostly agree. Shipping Tuvok off to the Titan where he gets tortured and beaten up every book was a bad idea. And Janeway making best friends with Mark and wifey is just plain lame. And shipping Belanna off to the Klingon planet was a bad idea also. 7 and Icheb are caged and tortured for almost two books.

Chakotay in command, Paris as XO (but only by the end of the fourth novel, he starts off with an XO called Ellis), Vorik is Chief Engineer, a new character (retroactively included in Voyager's original crew) called Campbell becomes Ops Manager, a Huanni called Astall is the Counsellor, Akolo Tare is the name of the Polynesian CONN Officer (who seems to have been sexually abused by the holograms in the first two novels) and the ships new Medical Officer is a Joined Trill, Jarem Kaz, who used to know Chakotay and the ships Science Officer is an Indian woman called Devi Patel.

BUT ...

The one thing I couldn't stand was the fact that Kim suddenly became the ships Security Chief.

Unfortunately, after
Janeway underwent a bizarre personality change then was killed of in a Next Generation book of all things
I won't be reading any more re-launch books. :(
