New Excelsior Novels?

I wonder... are any new Captain Sulu tales on the agenda? I think "Forged in Fire" was arguably THE BEST TREK BOOK EVER! Hey, Andy, any sequals planned?

Not in '08 or '09. We've seen pretty much the whole schedule until 2010 and there aren't any more Excelsior books on it.
'08 and '09, the majority of 2009 is filled with Post-Destiny books.

^ And the TOS books that are on the schedule aren't Excelsior.

Well it was, what, 4 and a half years between The Sundered and Forged In Fire, so if there are more coming, I bet it'll be a while.

Good things come to those who wait, like the New Frontier, Deep Space Nine, and especially the Voyager fans.

IDW are apparently considering doing some Excelsior comics...

Well, that depends on what you mean by "considering". I think the new editor, Andy Schmidt, was gauging fan interest in Excelsior (among many different possibilities, like Titan, etc.) at the convention--which, in the fan communities, quickly gets translated into "considering", and then, "there's one planned", and then "why don't we have our Excelsior series, you promised there would be one."

I'm not saying that there won't be an Excelsior series--only that I heard first-hand what Andy said at the panel in San Diego...and then I've seen people pick up on that, run down the field with it, cross the road, jump over the fence and pitch full speed off the edge of the cliff.

Personally, I'd *love* to see an Excelsior series, and Sulu and his ship play a big role in the Star Trek: The Last Generation series that I'm writing. But, also remember how much has already been announced for certain: Last Generation, John Byrne's Romulans sequel, his tentatively titled "Crew" series, Alien Spotlight II, movie-related stuff...it'll already be a pretty busy year all-around.

Well I mean just "considering", I was tempted to say planning, but realised all we've been told so far is that it's an idea floating around, so that would have been inaccurate.

Oh, for certain, I didn't mean to even remotely suggest that you were spreading bad info. It was more a caution to everyone reading it, about transforming their enthusiasm into wild speculation and then ultimately disappointment. (Wild speculation? Here? Pshyeah, right... :))

It'll all be up to Andy Schmidt, of course, so I'm sure we'll see what he's got in mind.

I haven't seen Andy post anything for a while. Is he busy with the Enterprise books or something? 'Cause I basically started this here thread to ask him if he has any Sulu books on the agenda --2010, or whatever.

Andy Schmidt is the current editor at IDW Publishing. ie ST comic books.

Actually according to the info released at Shore Leave, Michael A Martin is writing The Romulan War solo. There was supposed to be an announcement about why he was doing it alone, but nobody has said anything yet.

There's only one way to get him to show up...

Hail! Hail! Fire and snow!
With A. Mangels we will go!
Far away for to see,
Andy Mangels, come to me!
