Due to popular demand and general grumbling, I've decided to do, with the help of cardinal biggles, a Sesame Street poll to compliment my earlier Muppet Show poll.

I know I'm cruising for a bruising with this condition, but I've only included Old School Sesame Street Muppets, i.e. from the days of Jim Henson. Amongst even just those, there are many Muppets, so there are bound to be some omissions. I've tried to include the most popular (and the ones I have the fondest memories of) plus one for absurdity's sake. This time you can vote up to SEVEN of your favorite Muppets.

If there's some question as to who is who, be sure to look them up at Muppet Wiki.

Oscar, Bert & Ernie (they really should go together like Statler & Waldorf), the Count and the Cookie Monster, started a fattening habit of mine...

As for muppet I most want to see minced and fed to crocodiles, Elmo. (I thought the whiny little toerag was post Henson)

Are we going to do a Fraggle Rock poll, cos then I go for Sprocket and Uncle Travelling Mat.

Bert & Ernie (they really should go together like Statler & Waldorf)
I thought about that for a bit but I decided that Bert and Ernie are two defining characters on their own, as oppose to Statler and Waldorf (and Biff and Sully). And I know people like one over the other.

As for muppet I most want to see minced and fed to crocodiles, Elmo. (I thought the whiny little toerag was post Henson)
Nope, Elmo has been around since the 70's. He just didn't become a "whiny little toerag" until after Henson died.

Which reminds me. If Elmo is even remotely in the running in this poll, I will hunt each of the voters down.

Are we going to do a Fraggle Rock poll, cos then I go for Sprocket and Uncle Travelling Mat.
Yeah, I'll probably do one for them, too.

I voted for Cookie Monster, Grover, Hoots the Owl, The Martians, Oscar the Grouch (he has a TARDIS, so of course I love him!), Mr. Snuffleupagus, and Two-Headed Monster.

My picks: Bert, Ernie, Kermit, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Grover

I know this poll is not anywhere near statistically valid, but I think the threatening of Elmo voters could skew the poll a bit.

How is Oscar not winning this poll... yet?

Here comes Santa, girls and boys,
man, I hate that big red noise,
I'll tell him where to stick his toys.
I! hate! Christmas!

Only one vote for Lefty? For shame!

re: Elmo-an entire generation of children are growing up with no clear concept of the first-person perspective as a means of address.

My votes went to Cookie Monster, Don Music, Grover, Kermit, the "Yip-Yip" Martians, Oscar the Groutch [sic], and under "other," a shout-out for Gladys the Cow.

Oscar the Grouch (because I identify with him), Bert and Ernie, Kermit, Count von Count, Cookie Monster and Big Bird.

BUT - I would have voted for Grover but I completely forgot about him. In fact, I would have voted for him and Fat Blue just for the sheer comedy genius of the restaurant sketches they did over the years. I loved those.

I voted for Cookie Monster, Ernie, and Kermit, but above all of them (as well as around, around, around, around, over, under, and through) must go my cute furry pal Grover. I used to be able to do a very good Grover impression, but it would probably be too much of a strain on my voice these days. So I'll just reprise his song from the classic "Mexican Restaurant" sketch:

Granaaa-daaa...
Granada Cadiz Sevilla,
Where butter is called mantequilla!
We treat you so fine
When you come in to dine;
We're always delighted to see ya!
Ole-ole-ole-ole-ole!

Oh dear... I seem to have danced all over your dos!

As for Elmo, I used to like him a lot, before he got overhyped and overexposed. You know how it is... promising child star gets caught up in the promotional grinder, lets success go to his head, etc.

My friend used to reenact the scene where Grover explains the concept of near and far. We still laugh about it all these years later.
