Kirsten Beyer's Full Circle

BrotherBenny

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Since I've only just brought the VOYR books to try and perservere through since Full Circle is coming out next year (and Homecoming isn't brilliant, but easier to get through than last time) I have just noticed that Project Full Circle relates to the technology Voyager brought back from the Delta Quadrant. Since the above-mentioned novel picks up after Spirit Walk: Enemy of my Enemy and carries through beyond Destiny, is it going to focus solely on said project and the interactions that Voyager crewmembers have with it or is it going to be more wide-ranging than that?

To the best of my knowledge, the only thing said about this book so far is the title and the author.

I'll just ask: given that the timeframe in question spans at least two and a half years, given what we know about the events of that period and certain VGR characters' involvement in them, and given what we know about the various character arcs Christie Golden had in play in her books, is it likely that a book covering the VGR cast's experiences over that period would focus solely on a single plot thread?

Without being unduly critical of Christie Golden's work, I don't know what to expect. I will obviously have a better understanding of what to expect after reading Enemy of my Enemy, but no, what I meant was will that be the A plot with the crew interactions being B plots, or vice versa.

Why does it have to be one or the other? There are other possible ways of formulating a story. Indeed, a story that spans such a wide range of time and character arcs may not have any clearly definable "A plot" at all.

And "Full Circle" may be the name of that project, but it's got a wider range of meanings as well. Don't make any assumptions.

And you don't seriously expect to get anything more than cryptic hints at this point, do you? ;)

Not at all, but it was worth a try.

I'm finding the VOY relaunch a little easier going this time, but still troublesome, so I will just wait.

All I know is that I love the title! :techman: ;)

I know this is my own problem, but every time I see the title Full Circle, I can only think of the Doctor Who serial which introduced Adric. And that's a bad thing!

I just hope that the dangling plot threads about B'Elanna and baby Miral get sufficiently tied up. I'm mean, I'm sure that Kristen Beyer will at least touch on it, but I hope it isn't in a quick wrap-this-up-and-move-on kind of way.

Taking inspiration from "Rescue from Gilligan's Island", the whole crew get dressed in the clothes they were once rescued in, have a celebratory three-hour tour on the good ol' USS Voyager to remember their former captain - and end up back in the Delta Quadrant:

"Full Circle" indeed.

Not make assumptions? This is a BBS, not a Vulcan symposium :D

I'm still reading the VOYR so I won't make any more wild claims till I'm finished. At which point, I'm sure there will be more info on it.

It is not going to focus solely on that project, though obviously there's a reason it's, you know, the frigging title.

Finish the relaunch. Then think bigger.

You'll also get a better sense of at least some of the ground to be covered if you read Before Dishonor and Destiny, along with any of the ten or so other novels that have featured Voyager characters in the past few years (Titan, a few of the A Time To...books, Articles of the Federation, Greater than the Sum) Naturally none of this is required reading. As with all novels we make a concerted effort to tell you everything you need to know in a given story, but if you're curious and just can't wait, that should keep you busy until next April.

Fear not.

I've read everything else, other than Destiny, Greater Than the Sum and Spirit Walk. I'm trying to keep up. But thanks, I'll think bigger, is out of the box thinking required too? ;)

And on a side note, who is the gorgeous woman on the cover of Spirit Walk 1: Old Wounds?

After a long wait, and disappointments along the way, I'm really looking forward to reading this and hope you get more work. I thought String Theory:Fusion was pretty good.

I would pay good money to see that happen!

Well, emh, you can at least take heart(s) in the knowledge that you're not the only one who has this problem!

Re: Kirsten Beyer's Full Circle [VOY-R SPOILERS]

I've just finished reading the VOY-R and I've got to say that it was much easier reading this time around, once I got past the Homecoming/Farther Shore travesty. There are spoilers to follow so don't read on if you're bothered about what has come before.

Just like the Starfleet/Maquis crew in the series, I thought that the animosity between the Alpha Voyagers and the Delta Voyagers could have been better explored.

I enjoyed the spiritual aspects and thought that for the most part, the canon characters were on point, I just hope that Kim doesn't keep running to Mama Janeway every time he gets into a bind.

I felt the Moset plot was wound up with a cop out a la Dukat, a broken Cardassian, Gradak Kaz did right, breaking the arrogant doctor in that way instead of killing him and yes, I know that I'm contradicting myself here somewhat.

As for the Changeling, I did not like the way that ended up and hope that we wrap up this particular nonsense quickly, with Amar Kol alive and well.

It would be nice to see the B'Elanna and Miral storyline continue, but please, no more chest-thumping Klingon honour, KRAD writes them much more realistically.

I would like to see the Full Circle plot adequately finished by newcomer Olivia Woods (if it's excellent, all the better) and then have Voyager do something interesting. I doubt all of the post-series lines will have the respective ships exploring the galaxy, because it's not realistic, but given the experience of the crew aboard Voyager, I think that helping to rebuild damaged worlds would be a good cathartic workout for all on board the ship.

All in all, the Spirit Walk duology was better than I expected it to be, but not as good as I hoped it would be. Here's looking forward to Olivia and the continuation of the adventures.
