Elon Musk the pioneer? Has Musk returned the favor?

I don't know if this thread is appropriate in the Discovery forum or not, given that this should be related to current events.

How much of a pioneer is Elon Musk in the Star Trek universe? (Mirror) Lorca said quite the words.

With his recent investment in Skydance ($1 billion to start), is he about to return the favor?

Unfortunately, Tilly also went to Elon Musk high school according to season two.

I presume these were paid mentions.
I think it's more likely an object lesson in that, while there are dangers in being too online, it's also very possible to not be online enough. While the Discovery episode with the Musk Junior High reference was probably written and filmed before the Thailand cave rescue, which IIRC was the first really public instance of Musk just making an absolute horse's ass of himself in front of the whole world, he was already starting to get a reputation as something of a huckster earlier in the 2010s.

(And, of course, it would've been, if not trivial, then practical to change the name of the school in post-production and allowed the fanwank that Lorca bringing up Musk as a headline aerospace inventor was an early clue that he was an imposter to stand.)

Musk stinks. (Pun very much intended.)

There's a bumper sticker on my Nissan Leaf: "NOT a Tesla. And DAMN PROUD of it."

I've seen Teslas with bumper stickers to the general effect of "I bought this before Elon went crazy." The only vehicles for which such a bumper sticker would actually be appropriate would be something like, say, a 1969 (or earlier) Buick. Because he wasn't just born a nutjob; he was probably conceived a nutjob.

Why? It's no different than any other name drop in fiction.
Yeah. I doubt that either was paid "product placement" for a guy who was still something of a media darling for his "future-minded" promotion of the Holy EV and cheerleading for space travel fantasies.

Rather, it's an entertaining peek into the trend-soaked mindspace of the folks writing the show. Superficial and underthought.

The inherent danger of referencing something from the moment of writing to try and look relevant. It soured on them very, very quickly and now it's stuck there on film forever.

Today just changes too quickly, someone can go from championing the rights of immigrants to full on neo nazi at the flap of a pigeon's wing.

Sadly, my biggest fear is that Musk and Ellis WILL care VERY MUCH about making Star Trek friendlier to their worldview.

I don't care for Bezos but he didn't try to tell Fallout to praise Robert House.

Musk is nothing. I suspect he has a massive drug problem, and I'm looking forward to the day when it catches up with him. If you think that's harsh, I'll kindly ask you to recall the time he gleefully gave Nazi salutes in a public address.

Edit: I should mention, I've had no respect for Musk for a long time. I recall when he said that the first people going to Mars would essentially be on a suicide mission. I knew who he was then. That's not who we are. As explorers, we don't send people on one-way missions. That's why Apollo 13 is remembered as such a triumph. We bring our people home.

I'd drive a Nissan Leaf with a bad cell before I'd drive anything of his
