Star Wars: Killed by two low budget horror movies from first time directors one of whom is only 20 years old.

Didn't see that coming.

One of which was built on the back of an Internet viral series with a strong cast and excellent marketing. The other didn't "kill" Star Wars as it barely made more money.

Sorry to hit your doomsaying with context.

Definitely saw that coming.

Only one of those three films won't be making a massive, massive profit compared to its budget.

One of these films dropped nearly 70% from its first to second, while another had a virtually unheard of week-on-week increase, two weeks in a row.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong about everything?

The film brought in the family demographic, which means more Grogu merchandise and more trips to Disneyland, which is exactly what Disney wanted out of this movie. If the movie only breaks even, Disney will still turn a profit based on those factors alone.

Right. People overlook how much of Star Wars's success as a franchise has always been based on toys and games as well as movies.

Listen, I remember the sheer thrill of being 18 years old surrounded by all my newly-graduated high school friends and hearing "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" in an actual Hollywood movie (just like the funny video from the interwebz! We didn't call them "viral" or "memes" yet), so more power to The Backrooms, but as far as I'm concerned, The Mandalorian and Grogu has a lighting strike rescue op by four gremlins and a magic baby, and I really wasn't going to do anything better than that with two hours of afternoon matinee time.

I saw it today and loved it. So once again I agree with the audience score and not the critics. Theater was pretty full except the seats in the very front. If the box office doesn't meet expectations, it has more to do with the lackluster state of the franchise than the movie itself.

To get a sense of the value of critics, read Ebert's review of Generations.
I find that I disagreed with Roger Ebert far more than I agreed with him. (EG: 2 out of 4 stars for Batman 1989). He has his opinion. That's fine, but it has no effect on what I choose to see. Most critics have a completely different motivation when watching movies than I do. Judging by the scores, I'd say the divide between critic and audience has only gotten wider the past decade.
That's good to hear. You wouldn't know it from BO tracking sites which are giving the impression no one is seeing this.
If memory serves, those same sites had its opening weekend tracking lower than what it wound up being. So them being off on the second weekend wouldn't surprise me.

Saw it yesterday.

Best Star Wars franchise film since the OT.

No. This one is below Solo. Now, understand, I really like Solo. Mandalorian and Grogu is definitely a solid 6th after the OT, Rogue One, and Solo.

This would have been a bigger box office success if it was a Boba Fett movie. Even bigger if this was a Fett movie and we necer had Book of Boba Fett.

But it's a good, enjoyable movie.

Hardly. I think you grossly overestimate the popularity of Boba Fett. Yes, he has the "cool factor" prestige but that's largely among Star Wars fans only. Plus, the height of his popularity was decades ago.

If he had gotten a solo film on the heels of the original trilogy, then perhaps the film would've been a greater relative success at the box office.

But now? The vast majority general public know Grogu far better than Boba Fett. His name wouldn't have moved the needle.
