ENT's uniforms are my favorite. They looked like you really were serving on a ship in space. And they were very utilitarian.
Pockets really DO make a huge difference.

I feel sort of stupid that after 40 years I never picked up on that. The asymmetry in the TNG uniforms was the arrowhead motif, aka Starfleet delta, writ large in black on the color, you know.
Made them look like they dressed in a hurry. The most practical: ENT and the 2164 Franklin unforms.
The least practical: The Monster Maroons.
But dammit, do I love the Monster Maroons. Even after losing the undershirts and belt there was still something good and military about the jacket.
The first one, with just the gold piping around the neck, or the later one with the added black piping?Kirk's e.g. season two wraparound was asymmetric in more ways than just the badge placement, but I always loved that one. It was my favorite of his green shirts.

I say we blame Robert Wise

If only Wise had been able to make TMP as interesting, as tense, and even as disturbing as he'd made The Andromeda Strain.
Without the undershirt it looks like the jacket just opens to flash peopleThe evolution of the Monster Maroon jackets and insignia/commbadges over 71 years.

"boldly go" was no joke!!Without the undershirt it looks like the jacket just opens to flash people
I find TMP far more interesting.

Honestly, I've no idea which preference is more unorthodox. Not equally, but I like them both, so that should put me aright!![]()

Kirk looking like a 19th century soldier is at least a bit odd, surely.Kirk looking like a soldier after describing himself as a soldier was quite shocking.
