There's dubious, and then there's downright fuckin' embarrassing.

I believe United is more than a pitch, but an actual thing in development. Sussman was rejected because Starfleet Academy was an Earth-based show and they didn't want that two shows with a same setting competition. He wasn't rejected because it was an Enterprise sequel. Maybe he was explicitly told to refine the idea and come back in at a later date.., and that's why they had to move the heart of a newly formed Federation to Babel and Archer being ferried back & forth there, in a proposed Starfleet One Presidential ship. I mean.. all these details must be part of the changes asked for in a consultation, based on what some brainstorming meeting within either Secret Hideout or Paramount.

Thinking back a bit to the expansion plans Alex Kurtzman toyed with, when Section 31 and Academy were thought to be good directions, whatever happened to Jonathan Archer was one of the things thrown out there and consideration whether it had series legs or was possibly the next streaming movie idea.

As part of that, I would tend to believe releasing details about it in the public domain, getting Scott to talk about it at a Creation con and some breakfast show, is all purposeful. I would surprised if more doesn't come out in August, when I gather there's the 25th Anniversary cast reunion... bar Jolene, but you never know. More as in, a second and final rejection... or an official announcement United is greenlit, with presumably the cast onstage all up for return alongside new characters.

Now that definitely doesn't mean it's going to happen. It's nice idea and nice that fans were let in on the ground floor with detail to either embrace or eviscerate. The surprising thing about that is - even before Starfleet Academy garnered the response it had - the United details weren't met with the kind of negativity I was bracing for.

No, it's a development with some level of official sanction. Must be. Which, to manage expectations somewhat, is comparable to multiple projects since 2016 - particularly film projects - which obviously didn't go any further. I'd be surprised if there wasn't similarly a 1st and 2nd draft of two-hour pilot script for a United show etc...I mean you don't get a talented actor sounding like he was onboard, based on a Powerpoint presentation of artwork, without that type of thing to read and slice & dice, offering his own input on when and how his character changed.

No.

Wow, sounds like even with the cancelations of the current SNW & SFA shows. There is talk of new origins movie/series shows to come from Paramount. Isn't this great news if true?
Lots of people here were worried that Star Trek was going on hiatus indefinitely. Now sounds like their going back just like in 2017 and creating newer shows that could of been.
With all the lessons learned from Disco, Picard, L.D., Prog, SNW, S31, and SFA. These are exciting times ahead. Looking forward to all the renewed enthusiasm and all those 9's & 10 ratings for the future episodes of the newest Trek (2026 and beyond) yet to come.
May Star Trek continue to expand and live long and prosper!

While I do not believe Star Trek will be off the air for longer than five or six years, myself, we should be clear on this front. The "talk" is unsubstantiated rumors. Nothing more.
And reckless speculation.

I do not see Star Trek continuing nor does they'd appear to be much appetite for it

For Star Treks sake, I hope your wrong. I can't believe that Paramount would give up on such a lucrative I.P.
Look at all the profit from the shows and all the merch sold. Heck Disco spawned so many new shows.
There is lots of love (appetite) for money. The show must and will go on!

It's almost certainly coming back one way or another. The question is how long it'll be before that happens. And I doubt very much, partly for pure logistics reasons, that there won't be at least a bit of a hiatus involved. I just don't think it'll be quite as extreme as Enterprise-to-Discovery.

If the rumors swirling about the internet are true there is no money in Trek. So, I think moving on is wise.

If I were a Star Trek star pictured in those YouTube video thumbnails, promoting actor on actor hate over each other's work, I would be taking legal action.

The only reality is - money talks and not some perceived fantasy grievance about the current state of the franchise. But you have to wonder if that kind of fake news has a negative impact on an actor's reputation.

I mean, I can see Pine, Quinto et all being disappointed after a decade of having their names leveraged in negotiations for sure. But they definitely don't watch streaming Star Trek, wondering where the franchise went wrong... let alone have opinions that align with all that rabid war on woke nonsense.

Not really.

All this kind of announcement represents is a fast food restaurant announcing that their plan is to keep selling burgers.

Until and unless there's some news that makes a project sound interesting, there's no reason to care.

There's a tremendous lot of entertainment now that's more engaging than Trek has been, in the main, for decades.

Let me tell you what the next Trek movie will be, in large part: an action adventure plot climaxing in combat with a lot of weapons fire and explosions.

That's what the last three were, as well as five or six of the oldTrek films.

I don't think anyone really believed Star Trek was going into indefinite hiatus this time around. They're clearly just clearing the deck for Paramount's new regime to start fresh.

Why do people go to all this effort, especially when they know subsequent events will quickly discredit them anyway?

I remember way back in the early 90s on Usenet, before the Star Wars prequels were known to be a thing, somebody posting a long, well-written description of a secret trailer for a secretly upcoming movie (it did not match the eventual films that were made years later). What is the point of this sort of thing? One can’t not know that as a result, within a few months at most everyone while know you’re a liar. It’s self-sabotage.
