The Global Football Thread

Depends which City shows up, losing the other night will have stung and might generate a reaction. Forest's morale must be pretty low and they played a strong side on Thursday so players may be tired. The only sure thing I reckon is Liverpool beating Spurs (come back in a few days and laugh at me for that)

Interesting to see what happens with Sheffield Wednesday now they have a new preferred bidder.

Looks like 15 points deduction and a lot of restrictions over what they can pay players because the bid won't meet the required level to ensure creditors are paid at 25%

As a big chunk of that is Chansiri I can understand Wednesday fans being unhappy.

Rules are Rules though. Hopefully the deal goes through quickly, wondering if your club will survive is not pleasant as Derby fans will know. I do think Wednesday will have to suck it up though and accept that League 1, or even League 2 might be where they play their football for a little while, they will come back and be stronger for it.

That’s the thing -teams like that have the spirit /tradition to take the blows and come back again and again.
Currently holding City at one apiece…let’s see how that goes.🥸

Pep has ran out of ideas and for all the money spent that Man City side is woeful. Who is doing the scouting? They have bought in inferior players in almost every position to what they had before...

None of these players are good enough for a title winning team.

Khusanov
Aït-Nouri
Reijnders
Cherki
González

+ The below have all regressed this season

Doku
Dias
Foden
Marmoush
Rodri
Gvardiol
Savinho
Nunes
Lewis
Silva

Haaland is even off it since the New Year. Add the injury problems to Stones on top!

It's a miracle they are even 2nd to be honest.

Id replace the word miracle with travesty but agree they are a shadow of the team they were.

I think Spurs and West Ham draws were probably better results. That said i think Forest are more capable of getting a shock result against teams at the top end.

West Ham Leeds last day of season could be interesting

Im sure Spurs fans wouldn't thank me but I hope they go down.

Not for any malice but imagine Lincoln facing Spurs next season. No disrespect to forest, west ham or leeds but spurs would create more excitement for smaller clubs, which is pretty much every team at that level.

I also remember spurs fans chanting we'll never play you again back in our last horrible premier league season , so erm ok maybe a tad of malice.

I still (naively perhaps) expect Spurs to stay up. I think their goal difference is effectively an extra point and I do think it may come to that narrow a margin. They also have players who can score, unlike Forest.

If I were a Leeds fan I'd be a tad worried also, they're not in good form and it's still eminently possible that they take the third relegation place.

I'll be surprised it it doesn't go down to the wire/the last day.

If current form continues it will be Spurs who go with Forest just ahead of them.

West Ham are in the best form out of the 4

Form can go in an instant though. It might be that West Ham started their revival a smidgen too late. I don't think that's the case, I think they have momentum now and the City result will just reinforce that, but at the moment they're still in the bottom 3 despite their form.

In other news Chelsea get a slap on the wrists again

It seems the argument was it was previous owners who did it.

That's fine, but should show the same leniency to Sheffield Wednesday too then once the new owners take over?

That VAR call was bullshit - we went mental inside the City Ground when we saw the image.

This isn't why we watch football and no way that image is accurate. No way they know when the ball leaves the boot of the passer to when offside becomes active. Infact the Premier League put different images from what we saw in the stadium and what was put on their social media (The PL btw copyright striked there own picture on there own tweet).

I hate VAR. It was supposed to be for clear errors. For me if the ref cannot tell within 30 seconds, visually, that a decision is wrong then the on field decision should stand.

VAR is a result of the likes of Sky/Motd etc though who spent lots of time looking at a decision from all angles before (often from an ex ref) they would proudly announce the ref got it wrong. Same with managers and to a lesser degree fans.

Wasn't it more fun back in the day going over a match in the pub after and slating the ref to ourselves, and often getting home and seeing hed got it right.

In today's modern era with the system clubs have agreed to the decision to disallow forests goal was probably correct, but its that system i don't like. Its sucking the joy out the game. If a goal goes in provided the assistant keeps the flag down and so on that should be it.

Its inconsistent too, one week a goal can be allowed despite a player being in an offside position but the following week an almost identical goal is disallowed for blocking the keeper.

Just get rid of var, goal line technology is fine but anything else get rid.
