Kamen Rider and General Tokusatsu

Officially in Toei the Super Sentai brand is ending

Some in the fandom quietly call it a rebrand with Gavan infinity mixing Super Sentai elements like same toy concepts with Metal Hero

And the term universe heroes was fan conjecture based on Thailand distributor's mistranslation of japanese title of Project RED into English.

Project R.E.D has been trademarked

theres probley another alternate earth where toei is still with super sentai but now only in usa and not with japan

Well, we don't live in that timeline, so I'm willing to attribute the Imamori Maya Scandal/Drama to be what helped put the nail in the coffin for Super Sentai on our current timeline.

That had nothing to do with Super Sentai ending whatsoever.

This has been in the works for years.

Why do you think we got all those experimental seasons like Donbrothers with characters that occasionally work together but are not necessarily a team?

Or zenkaiger with one human and four robot helpers?

Not to mention trying to push Gavan on the public since Go-busters 2012

Also the fact that Toei is stuck in Japan with their brand and can’t expand it due to Hasbro/ power rangers IP conflict

And the King-Ohgers and Gozyugers are both sets of rivals who only gradually and loosely become teams, more like Kamen Rider than your typical Super Sentai.

So Hasbro/Saban PR IP conflict has more to do with Toei's shutting down Super Sentai IYO?

After Gozyuger tonight we got a Project Red official teaser

TokuSHOUTsu's livestream of Zeztz is having problems again. The feed cut out less than 30 seconds before the episode was supposed to start. I waited to see if it would come back, and eventually it switched to their Godzilla marathon livestream. I tried again from their main page and eventually got the episode already in progress but 7 minutes in, and I couldn't rewind the livestream to the beginning. I was going to just go to bed and try again in the morning, but I realized it would start again in less than 20 minutes, so I just waited and watched the second showing.

"Case #12: Impact" was an odd one conceptually, in that the dream event is an impending extinction-level asteroid impact (though they're calling it a "meteor," which is inaccurate on two or three levels), apparently generated by the fear of a young boy Dreamer. It's surprising that the Nightmares have the power to cause a threat on that level, and strange that they'd want to, though I guess they exist in another world anyway. It's also surprising that the show would escalate to such a cataclysmic threat so early, and unclear why it would be a mission for a secret agent to prevent instead of the world's militaries (though I guess destroying the Nightmare will get rid of the "meteor").

But we're getting to the point where the dreams-of-the-week are just the backdrop for the story-arc advances. Nox debuts his armored form Nox Knight, and you know it's not a Kamen Rider because his transformation phrase isn't "Henshin!", although he certainly looks like a Rider, a more silvery, armor-y version of Zeztz. More to the point, he challenges Baku about the nature of CODE and suggests there's a dark secret behind them, and reveals the true power contained within the Capsems, which appear as though they may hold captive Nightmares. Which I suppose I should've expected, since heroes and villains using the same power is a perennial Kamen Rider theme.

Also, Minami finally decides to invade her big brother's privacy and discovers the Mission Room and Zero, who lets her in on the secret. That's a relief, since it's always so limiting when main characters are kept in the dark about the hero's secret. Now she can be more of a participant in the stories, and the detectives won't have to keep sneaking in and out of Baku's window.

Apparently an article came out in Japan saying that Hasbro buying the exclusive toy manufacturing rights to Power Rangers cut Bandai's profits from the franchise in half, and that made Super Sentai less profitable and contributed to its cancellation.

I thought Hasbro buying Power Rangers was a good thing where the show was concerned, since the Hasbro-produced seasons were a considerable improvement over the Neo-Saban seasons. But it seems it ended up being fatal to Super Sentai in the long run.

Although the producer is saying this isn't the end for SS, just a hiatus of maybe a decade while they reassess how to approach it going forward. Which would finally put it in the company of Kamen Rider and Ultraman as franchises that have had lengthy hiatuses.

Does anybody know how long of a duration is Hasbro's License good for?

Toei may need to wait until Hasbro's License for Power Rangers is expired before bringing it back from the dead.

In the future, Toei may want to AVOID any Local Partners in other regions and do everything themselves w/o licensing it out.

What might come back in 10 years(yikes) might VAGUELY resemble a sentai but it will be different enough to cross over to America.

I feel like they should try to do a sentai like how early 2000 Kamen Rider series looked like

Very Japanese soap opera with some scifi elements

Ofcourse I think they started to lose that element once Den-O premiered with it's wacky set of characters and time travel.

Side note- Will 10 years be enough time for the Maya scandal to subside to eventually come back for the 10 year anniversary of Gozyuger?

The kids 10 years from now haven't even been born yet so they don't know/haven't seen Gozyuger to know the scandal.

Even the 3 to 5 year olds probably can't grasp why one of the heroes is now a different person.

Some highlights from a Shin-ichiro Shirakura interview with Asahi Shimbun:

- Gavan Infinity is a hard reboot and will not be connected to the original Gavan at all, but will carry over the metallic suit design and battles in hyperspace.

- Giant robot battles will return, in a similar style to Sentai mecha fights.

- Will be a part of a new shared continuity (something else carried over from the Space Sheriff trilogy, though Shirakura doesn't mention this).

- Next year's season, which hasn't been ironed out yet, will drift even further from Sentai conventions.

- It will be aimed at a similar audience to Kamen Rider.

It’s not Kamen Rider. It’s not Super Sentai. It’s not Ultraman

It’s Simply Red. I mean it’s Project R.E.D

It's supposedly 3 Gavan's. Not forms for Red Gavan
Interesting, so it's Team Gavan?
Gavan Red
Gavan Silver
Gavan Gold

(Baseless Speculation Time):
Future Timeline Descendents of the Current Era Gavan?
Original Gavan = Ichijouji Retsu who passes on the title of Gavan to Jumonji Geki
Gavan Gen 2 = Jumonji Geki (portrayed by Ishigaki Yuma is 43 y/o now) will pass on the title to these 3 New Gavan's?
Gavan Gen 3 = 3x New Disciples?

We know how Japan loves their lineage and no offense to Ishigaki Yuma, but 43 y/o is a bit too old to be a main protagonist in a Tokusatsu show.
They need Younger Actors in their 20's / 30's.

What I've heard is that it's a complete reboot, no connection to the previous incarnations.

I've been watching the new Fox game show 99 to Beat, and I just discovered one of the contests was Ciara Hana who played the Yellow Ranger in Mega Force and Super Mega Force. They've been calling her the Yellow Power Ranger, but I didn't think to look her up on the RangerWiki until tonight. She just got eliminated in tonight's semi-fi, so she did pretty good, they started with 100 people and she made it to the last 15, I missed exactly which number she was.
