Please no. I don't have a relationship with Star Trek because of 26 episode seasons. I got in to Star Trek because of one episode. Episode count is such BS to me. In this case it's a bit of small universe syndrome.
On the other hand, it's easy to feel a romantic attachment (even if it's just superficial) to someone one works closely with. Moreso when you add high pressure emotional situations into the mix.

We know from "Rejoined" that Dax swings both ways, one might wonder if she had any thoughts of that nature.
