General Trek Questions and Observations

Finally saw Siskel and Ebert's Trek movie reviews. I really enjoyed them, and it reminded me why I think the OG movies more succinctly encapsulate what's best about TOS than the series the movies are inspired by.

Please no. I don't have a relationship with Star Trek because of 26 episode seasons. I got in to Star Trek because of one episode. Episode count is such BS to me. It undersells the audience that the only way to possibly create commitment or fan status is quantity.

17 eps per year I think is a perfect Middle Ground between the old 22-26 eps per year model & the current streaming 10-13 eps per year model.

You can split the year into Trimesters, 17 eps per Trimester/Season per year.

Leave 1 week for X-Mas/New Years TV Programming.

If they really want to go this route then just give us 4 direct to video movies every year. Drop a 2+ hour TV movie every 3 months. Gives us 4 epic stories every year, can focus on a different character or 2 each movie.

Well, it's not the same model, that I can tell from multiple examinations (Bridge dome height is taller in the original photo, U.S.S. Enterprise letting is bowed on the original model, multiple other indicators), but still a cool undertaking for sure.

Ah, the first photo was THE very first time the starship Enterprise was seen in public, its birth to an unsuspecting world who had no idea what the ship even was until TOS premiered almost two years later. Such an inauspicious start to one of the biggest legends in popular culture.

Well, the better things in life are often gradual. Better to have normal pregnancies than SPECIES 2-style microwave versions, just to name one example.

It seems that if you were some kind of big cheese on DS9, you had a thing for Kira.

Bareil Anatos, nearly spiritual leader of Bajor.
Shakaar Edon, political leader of Bajor.
Gul Dukat, head of state of Cardassia.
Zek, autocratic leader of Ferenginar.

And also...

Sisko. His MU counterpart, anyway. And the real thing looked like he enjoyed sucking face with her, too.
Kinky Kira. Narcissism personified.
Odo. Not mutual at first.
Quark. Not mutual ever.
O'Brien. It would have been great, in another life.
Bashir. Only this one was in another life.

I wonder if Geordi LaForge would have had a thing for Kira.

In this case it's a bit of small universe syndrome.

On the other hand, it's easy to feel a romantic attachment (even if it's just superficial) to someone one works closely with. Moreso when you add high pressure emotional situations into the mix.
