Good point. "In less than a decade and a half, the United States has become the world's largest propane exporter." No doubt that is due to Hank's salesmanship.
Maybe that's part of the plot -- he's forgotten about it. Suddenly, George W. steps up and Hank is excited to thank him, shakes his hand, then the horror comes flooding back.
That would be interesting and somehow having Hank talk to Bush after all these years would be kind of interesting. They both sort of reflect the Republican party of yesterday. Maybe he didn't forget though but he finds out Bush loves to cook using propane as well and realizes that beats a limp handshake any day of the week.
The descriptions said Hank took the job in order to save for retirement. Saudi Arabia is the world's fifth largest exporter of propane, so it's more likely Hank was selling (or consulting regarding) Saudi propane, likely to Europe or South Asia. Saudi Aramco has a U.S. subsidiary based in Houston, Texas, so it's not surprising that he would have some connections with them.
Saudi Aramco also partners with U.S. companies for some sale and distribution. Hank may have worked at a U.S. company consulting with Saudi Aramco.
Yeah, but the US is number one so it just seems odd he'd go over there to the fifth largest.
Are "We" looking at numbers from now or the estiamted time he left Texas? Maybe numbers were different then/trending a different way then.
Saudi Arabia has a reputation for paying consultants well, particularly if they come from foreign consulting firms. I assume Hank impressed somebody in Texas, and the pay package was good enough to fund a retirement in just a few years.
We don't actually know when Hank took the job. Strickland may have lost his money when the real estate market imploded, resulting in Strickland Propane being sold off to some conglomerate, possibly even one with ties to Saudi Aramco. Hank's investments probably took a hit during that period as well.
That would make sense, for the series. Strickland's final words, "Hank, no matter how long it takes, buy back my company, make it American again, and it'll be yours."

Buck was the owner of a small town propane company with a history of failed marriages and gambling debts. I think the idea that Hank had to move to a bigger company (possibly one that bought out Strickland) after Buck "retired" that sent to him to the Middle East is the more likely scenario.
But what would make them want to hire Hank for the job instead someone already working for them? I think it's very possible that a bigger company bought out Strickland but my guess is Buck must have eventually put Hank in charge and he did such a good job the big boys took notice. Strickland sold the company to them and then they offered Hank lots of money to retire on if he would go sell propane on their behalf to Saudia Arabia. But of course he would not do this until Bobby moved out and went to college.

Hank: "I'll tel you what, I had a heck of a time figuring this out. Now that' we're all on, we can -- wait, what are you doing?" looks in closer, "Oh. OH GOD -- you're not supposed to do that in a Zoom meeting! Get out of here! Lord, must work for CNN."

Later on in the series he moved to cooking and it was implied that might be his future.
Though that doesn't mean there isn't room for him to, for example, on a weekend go to an "Open Mic" night and do something.
Indeed, the final episode of the original series depicted him bonding with Hank over their shared love of grilling, as well as Bobby excelling at inspecting cuts of meat, leading to him hosting a successful cookout with the entire neighborhood present.
