I meant to post this article when it first came out but this is definitely the appropriate time to post it now.

Anthony Mackie Wants His Captain America to Be for Kids What Christopher Reeve’s Superman Was to Him:

In approaching the role, Mackie took a cue from one of his own childhood heroes. “When I was a kid one of my favorite superheroes was Superman—like, I grew up wanting to be Christopher Reeve,” he said. “Yeah, I didn’t care he was a white dude. I didn’t care he’s from another planet. It was the humanity of the character that I connected with. Sam Wilson is the best part of all of us. And that’s what people gravitate to and that’s what people connect with.”

That paragraph comes at the end of the article but it's worth reading the whole thing because Mackie talks about the importance of representation and what his experience has been like playing Captain America, which helps set up this quote. Also...the headline is a bit misleading since Mackie doesn't quite say those words.

One of the RT reviews literally says this:

"It not only turns its hero into a Magical Negro. In an effort to soothe white America’s anger and hurt, it also asks its hero to grin and figuratively tap dance off screen."

Yeesh, THIS is from a Professional Critic? He's mad they didn't lean into the racial stuff deeper?
I know a bunch of newspaper critics wanted marvel/disney to go super hard on the racism angle in a way their own newspapers are too cowardly to do now about real stuff.

Weird to do an Incredible Hulk sequel without the Hulk. Movie was alright but nothing amazing. I don’t get the fuss over the Wolverine metal myself.

Reviews mean nothing when it comes to box office numbers, the Transformers movies were brutalized by the critics but none of them have made less than $440,000,000, and the two lowest rated movies made over $1,000,000,000.
The Bay Transformers were a lot of fun to watch though. I don’t think this has the same appeal.

"entire sequences shot were completely cut"

...but doesn't that happen in a lot of movies? Isn't that completely typical?
Most movies have things cut but this looks like to be on the extreme side. There was a whole section of the movie which had Seth “Freakin” Rollins in it that was completely erased.

The movies are definitely taking the same trajectory of the comics industry downslide. Maybe even worse than the comics. I may for watch a free viewing.

Obviously spoilers but a looooot was changed to the extent where it's largely a different movie from the version they first shot.
