Even more horrific accusations against Neil Gaiman revealed

Ann Telnaes quit last week after this (indisputably accurate) cartoon featuring Bezos was killed:

It is kind of sad and frustrating to see that so many great creators have such a horrifying dark side. Although at least Joss Whedon doesn't seem quite as bad now, don't get me wrong he's still as asshole, but at least from the stories I've heard it wasn't quite to the level of Gaiman.

Surreal always seeing him being associated with those specific kind of causes and all the associated fandoms based on his work acting on that too, only for this to be revealed. Which I guess points to more of the pattern with certain people writing in a certain way or vying for certain causes also having enough of their own dirty laundry, but that's a mentality that only makes me spiral out. Not at all how I thought 2025 would start off.

It’s also being suggested that Gaiman has plagiarised a less famous writer called Tanith Lee. Which is, IMHO, less serious than the abuse allegations, but OTOH, it makes me less inclined to care about whether or not we get any future works from him and less inclined to try to separate the art from the artist,

I'll have to do some more digging later on when I have the chance, but on the surface, that accusation looks pretty damning.

I've never read any of Tanith Lee's work but her name looked really familiar nonetheless. Turns out she wrote two episodes of Blake's 7, "Sand" and "Sarcophagus" (two of my favorite episodes).

Tsk,

hand over your teleport bracelet immediately.

For what? Loving those episodes* or not recognizing Lee's name right away? :p

*My memory is so crappy that I had to go back and look up those episodes since it's been so long since I've watched them, but I was already pretty certain that "Sarcophagus" was at least one I really enjoyed.

Is Scientology somehow associated with Gaiman's alleged behaviour? It's possible, but it shouldn't be accepted as an excuse. I haven't delved into the allegations - frankly, I have no need to know and would rather leave that to the relevant legal authorities. The following video summary told me as much as I could stomach and I agree with the opinions expressed:

I'm wondering whether I should now avoid anything with which he has been associated - even tangentially - not that I'm a big fan of his work or, indeed, the fantasy genre outside the works of JRR Tolkien. For example, does watching certain episodes of Babylon 5 or Doctor Who, for which he wrote episodes, or The Big-Bang Theory, in which he had a cameo, constitute implicitly supporting him? I'm not a big fan of cancel culture either, but I think you have to censor what you consume sometimes. But where should one draw the line? How much bad behaviour is acceptable by an artist in whatever medium? Is asking such questions even acceptable without turning the spotlight on oneself? Does the future consist of everyone living in fear of stepping outside the boundaries of what unaccountable groups on social media consider allowable?

Reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke. I've told the story a few times here of how I learned Clarke was a pedophile who delighted in the blind eye Sri Lankan authorities gave to his proclivity for underage boys several years before the allegations came to the surface.

Some of them get away with it and / or escape via the grave.

Yes, it was apparently well known in the SF writing community that Clarke didn't just go to Sri Lanka because of his interest in scuba diving.

Speaking strictly in terms of Dr Who, someone I follow on Bluesky pointed out that it was fine to still love The Doctor's Wife because it was a page one rewrite from Moffat.

And who wants to rewatch Nightmare in silver anyway?
