What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

You know what sucks, 1 member of the TNG crew didn't level up; nearly everybody who stayed in StarFleet ranked up pretty high from the start of the show in ST:TNG S1 to when we last see them in ST:PIC.

Jean-Luc Picard = Captain ► Admiral
William T. Riker = Commander ► Captain
Beverly Crusher = Liutenant Commander ► Admiral
Deanna Troi = Liutenant Commander ► Commander
Geordi La Forge = Liutenant Junior Grade ► Commodore
Worf = Liutenant Junior Grade ► Captain
Data = Liutenant Commander ► Liutenant Commander

Granted that the original incarnation of Data died, but was later resurrected in ST:PIC S3.
But I wish he would've at least gotten a promotion to Commander when Riker was promoted to Captain at his wedding.
Hopefully in the future, we get to see a later incarnation of Data with a nice promotion to go along with it, he has lived a very long time and in the new Golem body, he could potentially live well into the 32nd Century and Beyond.

I know Quark was always lamenting that he didn't go into weapon sales, but arguably the Ferengi should have one of the biggest entertainment industries in the entire Alpha Quadrant, especially a music industry.

First of all, I would think a species that has placed a big significance on their "lobes" and enhanced hearing would probably also have placed a high priority on developing music and exploring sound throughout their history.

Secondly, if you mix an enhanced ability to hear with Ferengi principles of capitalism, one would think they would also have seen the ability to exploit musicians and artists that every human record producer has when it comes to royalties, licensing, writing credit, taking a 10% portion of profits off the top for being a manager/agent, etc.

It was stupid.
I concur, but it was what he did & it worked.

He was lucky that Plot Armor saved him.

A not as important Character might not have been as lucky as he was.

He did, he didn't like the outcome that came with it when his Federation Friends shunned him.

Potentially, but that depends on how the UFP Music Industry would have evolved.

First of all, I would think a species that has placed a big significance on their "lobes" and enhanced hearing would probably also have placed a high priority on developing music and exploring sound throughout their history.
They might have, but like the current Music Industry, it's exploitative & crummy, heavily biased towards the Record Labels & Distributors instead of the artists.

Or UFP might have stricter protections for their muscians and what is allowed in contracts.

So, again, if Starfleet survives by Luck and such they might not learn too much.
Not all Galaxy classes survive by Luck.

Look at the USS Odyssey and Captain Keogh, they got Kamikazed by a Dominion Fighter.

Look at the USS Yamato, it was defeated because of Iconian Software infected their computers and caused a "Warp Core" Breach.

The same with the original Constitution Classes.

How many of the original 12 Launched Constitution Classes survived into retirement?

StarFleet can't only look at the "Successes", they need to learn from all the "Failures".

Don’t know if it’s a controversial opinion, but it’s incredible how little chemistry there is between Wil Wheaton and Gates McFadden in TNG. Complete opposite of Cirroc Lofton and Avery Brooks.

Somewhat related — back in early TNG, I actually felt most of the actors didn’t have much chemistry with each other… but those same actors got better with each other over time, and those who came back for S3 of Picard were pretty darn great together. I chalk it up to time, both in working together and in life experience on the part of the actors themselves.

So +1 to "Plot Armor" so that they can get away with hair brain schemes to escape their dire situation of the moment.
Pretty sure Trek spins on Plot Armor.

But, more than that, Riker has plenty of experience with both Birds of Prey, and enemies who could pierce shields. He even served on a Bird of Prey! He has experience in spades, and that makes his "luck" even more blind. He should have had far more capabilities in that moment.

We don't know all of Kirk's experience; we know Riker's. So, it adds to the "plot armor."

Yeah, I always found it interesting that the cast who got along the best offscreen had such little onscreen chemistry through most of TNG's run.

CSTO #.. can't keep track anymore LOL

- vaporising weaponry like high-power hand held phasers and disruptors should be banned.
- photon torpedos should have on-shot capabilities against any other starships
- we should see more ship designs than the same stuff kitbashed over and over.

Perhaps that was thanks to being cast to play stiff, unrealistic "utopian" characters with no heart and soul. Doubtful there would have been much warmth (initially) when you have to portray that every day.

Reason?

Nobody would break character? From what I've heard, it's just those moments when actors have to hold an unnatural, serious, or somber expression/pose that they begin to cut up.
