Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Can't they just do a show about PT-era podracers? (And not a lame space racers show with cheapo animation tied to the unpopular ST era that's barely about racing at all, cough, cough, Resistance.) Is that so hard? :p

I tried Resistance but ultimately i couldn't hang. I did like how it overlapped with the ST and reproduced Hux's speech in animation.

Some new footage in this promo from Skeleton Crew and Andor (among many other things) so here seemed like the logical place for it.

Side note: who in their right might thought an 'Alien' show was a workable idea?! I'll be astonished if that turns out to be any good.

the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways maybe the only one, Star Wars has right now."

Well, that'd be one of the most popular fictional characters of the past half-century - and, though I respect Daisy Ridley as an actor, I'm not talking about Rey, whose primary character arc was wondering if she and a mass murderer should smooch. I'm talking about Luke Skywalker.

The Kennedy/Filoni faithful may be ready to be done with Luke forever, but, even after the ST, there are millions of everyday people who like Star Wars (and who've never heard of Ezra Bridger or Ahsoka Tano) who'd be up for seeing Luke go on another adventure. Especially if Han and Leia were around. Millions, I say. :p

And, as it happens, Star Wars already has the perfect vehicle for a standalone Luke adventure. A story where they can recast the role, and give a new actor the chance to sink or swim without the expectation that he'll necessarily headline a whole bunch more films. A story that doesn't demand a sequel, because it already exists. A story that doesn't require them to also recast Han (just Leia). A story with Darth Vader.

That's right - they could finally make Shadows of the Empire. One movie, with a satisfying ending, and no further commitments. (But, there's a potential bonus: if they got off their butts and finally make an initial Rogue Squadron movie at the same time, they could set it between Shadows and RotJ, and feature the new Luke and Leia again in minor roles.) If a Shadows movie fails, no great harm is done. But if it's a hit, they can recast Han (or bring Alden back) and make a movie set shortly after RotJ, and then they'd be off to the podraces.

(And, wouldn't you know, the next few years might be a good time, zeitgeist-wise, for a story set during the height of the Empire's tyrannical rule, with the decrepit Emperor in charge of the galaxy...)

... Of course, for Kennedy to approve such a venture, she might have to acknowledge that her pet protagonist from three tonally confused, hastily thrown together movies somehow failed to garner the same affection that Luke did over three classic movies and decades of fandom during simpler, less competitive pop culture times. She's rich and a senior citizen, so maybe she values her pride over the company's finances. (So, Disney, that would make it your move. What's more important - Kennedy's ego, or your bottom line? :p) Granted, however, that's just a theory.

^ Oh, the Disney corporation is paying the rent, all right - they're just paying it in lost revenue, so it's a wee bit harder to spot. Thanks for your concern, though, useless as it is. :)

I'm fine with Rey taking a bigger role in the franchise, but it seems a bit strange to me they'd call her the most valuable cinematic asset, I didn't think she was that popular. And I'm not sure how she's going to appear more than the one we already know focuses on her, they take place all over the timeline.

Hype. PR. Spin. Welcome to Hollywood. ;)

Who else have they got? People may tolerate Din Djarin being fully helmeted for a 35-minute TV episode at home, but we don't yet know if general audiences will go to see a faceless protagonist in the theater. There's Ahsoka, whose first TV season was tepidly received, and Rosario Dawson hasn't had a major role in a high-grossing movie since... 2002's Men in Black II. They could make a movie with Osha and Qmir, if they wanted, theoretically.

Apart from Rey, then, the only promising character/actor around that I can see is Lando. Or maybe Ewan McGregor, but they're pretty limited by canon in terms of what they can do with Obi-Wan. That leaves, er... a potential second outing for Alden E.'s Han Solo? Doctor Aphra?

... Or, y'know, some nobody named Luke freakin' Skywalker. :p
